Really cool, Steve! I'm collecting Perry Samurai and Koreans for Basic Impetus and the Ming will be a welcome addition to my collection. Any chance of some close-up photos? Good luck with the range! Matt Beauchamp Hydra Miniatures hydraminiatures.com |

Pictors – Still working on the wako. The dollies are at the caster, so we're probably a couple of months out still. Matt – We'll have closeup shots shortly along with some painted examples. I've got many Perry Samurai as well as Choson and look forward to gaming them with my Ming! |

Are they meant for Southern China? May be my eyes but they look barefooted. No one can survive in Northern China or Korea barefooted. And the plume looks like they are all caught in the wind. The plume of the Ming soft hat rest on the hat in most if the time. But great to see Ming Chinese finally :-) |

They should be good for both. Most battles were in the summer, so that's the season these were planned for. The plume sits on top of the hat. I guess in one of the pictures, the plume looks a bit winded, but it's actually a bit of flash that hasn't been cleaned yet. Thanks for the good wishes! Barefoot is good for summer and pirates hunting. Found a pic which depicts the soft hat. link Can't wait to see the officers :-) |

A pic which depicts the Ming hard bell helmet. But I have only seen it on officers. Plume stands up on these. link But then I could be wrong

These are the backbone of the 16th Century Ming infantry, mainly spearmen but with officers packing swords and artillerymen. A Ming army of the Imjin War IIRC would have employed a great many of these dudes, who fought the samurai of Toyotomi Hideyoshi with frequently reckless courage. The unarmoured Ming spearmen would have been stiffened by junior officers and their bodyguard detachments partially or even fully armoured, artillery on a scale the Japanese hadn't conceived of at this time in history, and cavalry. Armoured Ming troops would also include some elite units and garrison troops. This is a desperately neglected subject, and my hat's off to Cavalcade for getting this done! Will armoured troops and artillery be next?!! I have to be ready to splatter "Virtualscratchbuilder's" samurai riff-raff in the foreseeable future
Now I must go knock over a few dozen banks to finance my Ming Chinese needs in the immediate future

Thanks Ricepot. These specific examples are based on a specific Ming Dynasty scroll. You can see other newly painted examples by one of the Perry's in the Osprey book for this period. I seem to have misplaced both as they're not in our apartment. The plume on the hats are less like tassels and more like hackles or pom-poms, not unlike a tam o'shanter. |

Thanks Steve. Would these be fully compatible with the Perry Samurai? The Perry Korean non armoured are much bigger than the Samurai :-( Anyway need to start diverting funds from the WWII front to buy lots of these. |

Ricepot – That's the plan. Personally, I've got over 200 Perry samurai and chosson painted, with another 200 or so to go. I can't wait to get the Ming castings myself! I'll get a comparison shot up with the Perry's shortly. Best, Steve cavalcadwargames.com nycjadie.wordpress.com |

How do these compare in size to the Scheltrum Miniatures' The Ming Dynasty? |
| nycjadie | 30 Sep 2009 12:03 p.m. PST |
Bob, I don't have any Scheltrum miniatures, but I've seen photos. They're supposed to be 28mm. However, I think stylistically, they're a bit thicker than Cavalcade. To give you an idea, Scheltrum pics can be seen here (although it's a different era): link Cavalcade's were designed to be more compatible with Perry's Samurai and Koreans. Our goal is to have a booth at Cold Wars so that people can check them out in person. It all depends on the release schedule. Best, Steve cavalcadewargames.com nycjadie.wordpress.com |

"Officers are definitely coming. We'll be working on more elite troops in the future, including artillery." Steve, you are now a god in my country!
