I saw that Front Rank has come out with New Danes for the WSS. The figures look great as usual. Wish they added Lifeguards to the line, but it is just Grenadiers and infantry at this stage (still going to buy them). Does anyone know if Front Rank has a representative in the U.S. anymore, or do I have to use the UK?

Thanks,

Mike

Buying from the UK is cheaper as you get actual exchange rate and no VAT. The VAT will more or less cover the shipping. I go two units and they are really nice. I have ordered a bunch of stuff from them with no problem.

Reaper does a fine 28mm Dracula.

And Wolfman.

And Frankenstein's Monster.

I didn't write that.

This is what I wrote
I get mine from buddy at Triangle Minatures in NC.No online cart but you can download a order form or just call him.Excellent service and fast shipping.
I have also ordered from Front rank direct. The exchange rate is good but you pay something like 20% shipping to the US.If your getting a lot then you get a bulk discount so it's cheaper then Triangle(like 5 or 6 cents a fig).
So I guess it depends on how much you need and how fast you want it.Front Rank has great service too but it does have to come across the pond.
BTW what is VAT?

BTW what is VAT?

The British equivalent of a federal sales tax.

Then I don't understand how the VAT will "cover" the shipping cost or what that has to do with buying from the UK.If you buy in the US to the US there is no tax on the net so why is buying from the UK better when there is no VAT? I'm confused.

fitterpete,

I've found that ordering direct from Front Rank is almost ALWAYS cheaper than ordering from Triangle Miniatures. Do the math and you'll see even with shipping costs from the U.K. you'll still save money and the turn around time is great.

What they mean by 'the VAT will cover' the shipping costs, they are trying to say that since you will NOT be charged VAT (Value Added Tax) because you do not reside in the U.K. that same amount is pretty much what you'll be charged in shipping, so it is a 'six of one, half a dozen of the other' type of scenario.

Best of luck and good painting.

Yeah you're right it's cheaper about $2.06 USD a fig to $2.15 USD and it gets cheaper if you spend $250 USD or more. But the VAT thing is a moot point as you don't get taxed in the US either.

Arteis29 Sep 2009 11:24 a.m. PST

The VAT comes off the listed price in the UK if you order from outside the country. So whether you are taxed in the US or not has nothing to do with it.

I live in New Zealand, and usually the 'discount' because of the VAT being taken off works out nearly the same as the postage costs from the UK … which equates to almost 'postage-free'.

fitterpete29 Sep 2009 2:14 p.m. PST

AHH ok.Thought the VAT was added to the list price, like our sales tax.Got it now thanks for clearing that up for me.Sad thing is I never noticed when I ordered from them before.Always used a credit card and never really looked at it.

fitterpete10 Oct 2009 6:46 a.m. PST

All right.I just ordered some elephants from kingmaker in the UK.They came to 50GBP.That was the price on the website.I was then charged 7.5GBP shipping so total 57.50GBP.At no time did a VAT amount "come off " the listed price.
I was charged by Paypal already so at no time in the process will it ever come off.I'm not trying to be a jerk I just don't get it and beleive me if I could save some money I would like to get it.

andygamer10 Oct 2009 9:02 a.m. PST

I believe it's not included as already part of the £ 50 but is added to British bills after the fact, just like you buying something for $ 50 and then the retailer adds the MA state sales tax afterwards. A British customer would have paid the £ 50 + 5% postage (or 10% or free or whatever) +15% VAT. You were charged £ 50 + 15% postage and no VAT, Pete.

So the VAT is not taken off the listed price and is added just like a sales tax.
1)If I order regiment deals from Renegade I will get charged the list price plus 40% postage.
2)No VAT or sales tax.No sales tax on internet purchases anyway here so it doesn't really matter about the VAT.
3)Still paying 40% postage.
Yes I'm better off than a UK citizen that I don't have to pay VAT but his postage is not 40% either.
My point is I wasn't going to pay sales tax anyway so no VAT makes no difference and does not cancel out the postage.Your either going to pay VAT in the UK or a larger postage every where else.
