Well it would have to be the silent film Napoleon by Abel Gance.

The film covers Napoleon's life from his birth to the Italian Campaign.

Abel Gance wanted to do a series of films about Napoleon's life,BUT because of lack of money he was'nt able to do it.

Not a 'film', but a TV documentary, 'Napoleon, The Man on the Rock' by Kenneth Griffith, dating back to 1975. I remember watching and being so entertained and enthralled by Griffith's obvious passion for the subject – it focused on Napoleon's exile to St. Helena.

They have yet to make a good film about Napoleon.

Ligniere, I had forgotten about "Napoleon, The Man on the Rock." I guess I was lucky to have seen it on television once, many years ago. Thanks for the reminder!

Kai, I have that miniseries. I thought it was outstanding. Any other good films about Napoleon/Napoleonic period?

I did'nt know that about Davout's grandson that's good information Sven Lugar.

As for other films there's one called Eagle in a Cage which deals with Napoleon's exile on St Helena.

Next we have Conquest which deals with Napoleon and the Polish Princess.

And last but not least there's WATERLOO with Rod Steiger playing the Emperor(GREAT performance i must say).

"Napoleon and Josephine, A Love Story"…..not many battle scenes but the ample clevage on many of the women in the film, maintains the viewer's attention…..

'Monsieur N' about his exile on Elba and a nice what-if at the end. Portrays him most accurately as a man than any other movie I've seen.

And he was average height for the period btw.
