What is the commonest way to base giant monsters for kaiju gaming? Do you use Toho/Bandai gashapons, and if so do you leave them unbased? How do you measure movement if unbased? I'm playtesting some kaiju rules (Mighty Monsters) and I just wonder if there's a common "we measure from the torso" rule that people use with unbased monsters. |

I use the 6" kaiju, so a bit too big for basing. Don't really have any measurement standard for movement, as long the player measures from the same spot at the beginning & end of the move, it shouldn't matter. For combat, I'd think measuring from what the aggressing appendange would make sense. If the kaiju's eyes shoot out rays, measure from the head. If the tentacles shoot slime, measure from the end of the tentacles. |

We measure from the leading foot. |

warrenss2 what if the monster has no feet? :-) There is such a variation of shapes, appendages etc that any rule I try to make will not work for some shapes (e.g. Mothra in larva form is basically a caterpillar, Kumonga is a giant spider, and don't even get me started on guys like Ebira). A. |

Base Kaiju? whatever the heck for? We're playing with toy monsters
You are definitely overthinking the problem. I use the same method as Black Cavalier for measurement with the gashapon and with the 6-inch figures. My own thought is that when all lese fails, shoot for center mass as a measurement point. |

what if the monster has no feet? That is a mere technicality. Measure from the front most part of the creature. It does not matter what it is
foot, claw, pseudopod, reaching talon hand, whatever
Start the measurement there and end the measurement there. |

Measure to the eyes, of course. Doesn't everyone? |

Basing really isn't needed. I agree with everyone above: just pick one spot on the mini and be consistent. |

I am on the same page as mmitchell and Starfuryxl5. I use one spot on the figure and it works out well. Otherwise, Mothra in moth form is hugeon a flying base, and Kamakiras is way too tiny, even though they both have wings. |

Same as others
mine don't have bases and we agree up front where to measure from
usually the face of the thing. |

thanks. My question arose from the fact that In the "song" system you can measure from any point of the base to any other point of the base, and so creatures on bigger bases move a bit more. This is ingrained in the system but I guess the kaiju rules will have to doaway with this quirk. So far I have played kaiju with based Gormitis /about 40-45mm for the taller ones and 25-30mm for the smaller ones) but now I am playing with unbased gashapons so the question arose. Thanks Andrea |

I use unbased kaiju except for flying ones that need stands. Players can pick any point on the figure they like to start and end the measurement for that move. |

I base all my figures but that's because I'm kinda anal about things like that. However I measure from the center mass of the figure. |
