What are some good games where each player controls just a single squad/unit/warband of models and each model acts as a unique entity (no grouped units of models)? Games like Necromunda and Mordheim. I'm looking for any genre; sci-fi, fantasy, real world, ancient mythology, etc.

You already mention Necromunda and Mordheim. You can add GW's Lord of the Rings game with is a distinct system and a lot of fun too.

My favorite is Chain Reaction in any version, though I'd use 3.0 since it's free and has the most "tuned" system.

Chain Reaction 2.0 had a lot of extra "chrome" in it, but that stuff is dribbling out as free add ons over time.

Infinity (sci-fi) by Corvus Belli, the rules are free on their website.

Aren't LotR and Infinity for larger armies grouped into units? Not 40K sized armies, more like around the size of AT43 or Warmachine armies?

I second Chain Reaction – a great set of rules. You should take a look at them.

The basic LotR game is not unit based. Units are used in the newer War of the Ring game.

Any genre?

Just about all of the wild west games are skirmish, where you control from a few guys up to maybe a dozen. Too many titles to try and list them all … but a sampling of a dozen off the top of my head would include:

Blaze of Glory
Desperado III
Dusty Trails
Fistful of Lead
Gunfight
Gutshot
High Noon
Legends of the Old West
The Rules With No Name
Six Gun Sound
Tombstones & Tumbleweeds
Westamunda

All of the above are aimed at a "gang" per player down to just one or two figures per player.

Here are some just out of the top of my head:

Alkemy, by Kraken Editions (fantasy)

Song of Blades and Heroes (fantasy)
Mutants and Death Ray Guns (post-apocalyptic SF)
Song of Drums and Shakos (Nap)
Fear and Faith (modernish horror)
(All of the above by Ganesha Games.)

Hell Dorado (fantasy, in hell)

D&D Miniatures (which might rather be a 'hybrid' game – part boardgame, and collectible prepainted miniatures) (fantasy, obviously)

Battle Troll (free Viking skirmish game hosted by Wargames Factory)

Either of these will give you a taste

Street Violence or Combat Zone would work.

Thanks,
