If you were a kid in the 1960s who loved history and toy soldiers, you probably had a WOW figure!

Didn't want to hijack the Royalist thread for a discussion of the "enemie," so here goes: I just recieved some of the new Warlord Firelock Storming Party figures and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any particular units in the NMA that were so armed.

They do mention Okey's Dragoons having some men armed with them, but that they preferred the standard musket.

Thanks!

PS I have the Pen & Sword book on the NMA and plan to check there, but can't get to it at the moment.

depends when your talking really

initially, you had the artillery guard companies armed with them- col/major desbrough (I think)

various writers state that the Lord Generals regiment was equipped with firelocks at Naseby- cant reacall if there is any primary to back this up

I pressume by 1648 incresing numbers of units start to see growing numbers of firelocks issued to the infantry regiments

its the first i've heard about okey's expressing a preference to matchlocks over flintlocks in the write up in the warlord firelocks box (got mine today too!)

Reid's book 'all the kings soldiers' has some discussion about the new model contracts and musket issue in the chapeter about 1645 campaign- i think in the foot notes- plenty of other sources too- i'll have a look amongst the books and let you know

There is a reference to Thos Fairfax's Regt, in the Marston Moor campaign IIRC having no pikes and 'all firelocks'

I can also recall coming across a quote stating that Fairfax's foot were Musket armed only, but I don't know the original source or the accuracy of the information. Does anyone have an original source for this claim?

I am looking for a New Model Army Firelock Infantry figure, 15mm metal, to match my Museum figures in size.

Thanks

There war a company of firelocks attached to the artillery train that took part in the invasion of Scotland in 1650.

Two units of note the Artillery and Baggage guard (could have been the same unit) Towards the end of the period more units of Firelocks were common and of course fewer pikemen. Ref Cromwells army and the Battle of the Dunes.

It is possible that Okey's Dragoons slowly replaced their armes with Firelocks as time went by.

As usual in the ECW no straight answer!!
