Looking to fill a couple of gaps in a small number of units. I need two specific figures – dwarves, armed with "ball and chain" type weapons (with or without a shaft.) Any leads? Gracias, Glenn |

I think the old (Olley sculpted) Iron Claw line had a Dwarf with a short ball flail. Didn't the Chainmail (WotC) Dwarf Berserker have a chain weapon? You should also be able to whip one up if you know anyone who plays Chaos Mortals in WFB, as the Chaos Marauders come with a two-handed flail option and spares are inevitable. |

You could also raid Goblin Fanatics for a ball and chain. I'd be tempted to use a length of cheap jewelry chain, superglued for stiffness and coated with green stuff (just like the pros do), then sculpt a dwarf-appropriate ball out of green stuff. Maybe a stylized Dwarf head, or a polygon with a different Dwarf rune on each face. |

Not currently made models, to my knowledge, but a couple of old Citadel Dwarf models were so armed. There is one pictured on the Stuff of Legends site in the 1994 Citadel catalog as a Dwarf "Long Beard". See here: link He's got a weapon with two spiked balls at the end of ropes. And there's another model in the same section with a spiked shaft attached to a handle by a short chain. Dave |

A ball-and-chain or military flail is actually a pretty easy weapon to scratch-build. For the shaft, any suitable length of wire, toothpick, brass rod, or styrene; you may even be able to use what the figure's already holding, just clip the head off. For the weight, use ball bearings or air rifle ammunition, or you could scratchbuild something out of styrene, as the weight doesn't have to be literally a ball. It could be cylindrical and it could be smooth, or flanged or spiked. For the chain, use costume jewelery chain. Exaggerated scale is common in fantasy; if this is acceptable, you can make your own chain out of fine wire (copper or solder -- steel or brass would be harder to work with); wrap it around a paintbrush handle, push off the resulting coil, trim rings off of it, then assemble the rings into a chain (crimp with pliers as needed to close rings or and/or flatten them into ovals). If the shaft and/or weight are of a workable material and substantial enough to drill out to thread a chain link through, do that. Otherwise attach with a dot of glue and let dry. Superglue works for this but epoxy would be better. Arrange the chain on some wax paper, apply superglue and let dry; repeat as needed until the chain is stiff. Peel off. |

I've got some of the Iron Claw ones I think. Heavy armour with a ball and chain on a staff. Contact me at daveUNDERSCOREmclumphaATskyD0Tcom if you want one. |

Glen, it gets better, I've got two different types. The first one has an overhead grip and a studded ball. The second one has a boar's head helmet and a plain ball. |

Looking a bit harder, these aren't GW, I've got a feeling they were Heartbreaker/Chronopia figures. The sword armed ones could paddle canoes but they do look rock hard as a unit even without beards. |

"Paddle canoes," no kidding! Those are definitely the Chronopia Dwarves that Buff is talking about. The ones with morningstars are Dark-Tusks, still available from Prince August: link Lots more Chronopia Dwarves here, Glenn, if you want to bulk up your forces with similar minis: link |
