Ok, I've TMP'd, Googled and LAF'd
Just started Napoleonic skirmishing in 28's after a 2 year romance with 40's. I have Sharp Practice and just started collecting the mightiest of fine Alban Miniatures range. But, seeing as the range is limited and being very particular regarding sizes, and yes, I know I have started collecting a limited range (that is expanding slowly, with Austrians next I believe) but IMHO there isnt a range out there that beats them proportionally and for sculpt quality. None
At all
Mssrs Perry! So
what IS the closest? Anyone in the same pickle? Or do I just sweat it out and enjoy what I have
Which is very nice
As I have said

TAG Austrian range (same sculptor). I do not know any other. And therein lies the (biggest) problem with that range

Sorry, I do know about the TAG's and forgot to mention. <And therein lies the problem with that range
> Not a problem at all, I think these will become far more collectable than any other range currently. |

In my opinion NOTHING comes close. I had a chat with Sir Richard Ansell today (Britain's greatest living sculptor, alive or dead) and he tells me that he is absolutely flat out on working on new stuff for Alban. I think you'll find that the range is expanding VERY rapidly, and it is very much worth waiting for! |

- Not a problem at all, I think these will become far more collectable than any other range currently.- Well, my goal is to paint and play with them, not collect them. |

Cheers for that TFL, good news indeed, and superb rules BTW. I know how to wait, drums fingers on desk, whilst chewing nails

Charles, me to, paint, play, collect, It's all the same. (I'm not having a go at you by the way) and I do appreciate your reply regarding the TAG's. Cheers. |

Alban are thin but look not bad up against the Perry figs. picture |

My pleasure Eric, sorry If I came up as sharp, it was not my intention. I'll admit I'm not a fan of the Alban style (I know, I know, proportionnal figures are the new trend), I do not enjoy painting them. I can understand why others like them, though. To each their own. Cheers! Iannick Clash of Empires link |

Ansell is the best sculptor in the industry, bar none. |

They are a lovely range. And very well proportioned. I have bought a fair bit of it and will keep on buying it. At about GBP 1.25 per fig, plus postage, they are expensive, but I like them a lot. I began by getting a few for Sharpe Practice, but am likely to keep buying in order to play division-size games as the range expands, so that will get pricey. btw. I am told there will be four new packs of British line infantry released this week! |

As the Naps is a future project for me, I have decided to see what Richard is going to do after the Alban/Radzesky/Tag issue clears up and the ranges start filling up
We need opposition for the Austrians!!! |

Another range that is similar in proportions to the Ansell sculpts are the ones done by Ian Mountain (IIRC) for Eagle (the Spanish initially) and Offensive Miniatures (Polish lancers +? )I have a few of the Spanish and they are terrific little figures. link |

Exactly what nationalities/theatre/period (and don't say Napoleonic) are you after? As for Ansell being the best sculptor in the industry bar none – absolute load of tosh (sorry Woody, you're good but you're not *that* good). Tom Meier (amongst numerous others) must sigh when reading such things. Nothing from Eureka's Revolutionary Wars range appropriate? Too early? They're the most natural looking 'little men' I've seen so far. Yup, I'll raise you an Alan Marsh! :) |

The Polish Lancers are indeed in the same style as Ansell work. However, it's not the case with Offensive miniatures infantry, who have a different style, closer to maybe what the Perry do. As for best sculptor, we all like different things, it's a question of taste. That's like arguing who's the best music band. There's no right answer. |

Hi all, I have to agree with quite a few of you when I say Richard Ansell has produced a fine set of figures for Alban Miniatures and with it has stimulated my interest in Napoleonics, which for someone with boxes full of Romans, Barbarians and 3 carrycases full of the BTD and FR hundred years war figures is quite a change of direction. I love these proportionate figures and have to admit I'm sticking by the Alban range as I think any perpiration shed will be well worth it. Thoroughly impressed gents! |
