As the title implies, I'm looking for a source for 1/76-scale British 2-pounder anti-tank guns. (And other 1/76-scale stuff -- 1/72 seems to have take over while I wasn't paying attention.)

Griefbringer19 Sep 2009 11:31 a.m. PST

Airfix makes a 6 pounder, and Revell has re-released the Matchbox 17 pounder, but I cannot think of any 2 pounder in plastic 1/76.

Milicast do a beautiful if a bit pricy resin one. MMS don't, but are worth a look for 1/76 in general – being metal they're more robust than Milicast's resin. SHQ are also well worth a look; metal again, and they do a 2 pounder – I'd email to double-check on scale though; pretty sure they're 1/76 not 1/72, but I'm not 100%….

The Milicast one would do. (Unfortunately, I'd have to get twice as many as I need, half limbered, half in firing position.) But does anyone sell it in the US?

Skytrex do one; I have four of the beasts, but have yet to assemble them. They look good enough for wargaming purposes, but I am sure that anything by Milicast will be more accurately detailed.

All the best,

John.

I scratchbuilt mine to a decent "wargames standard". Plasticard, paperclip, bits ,etc..

You can see it in action here:

There's a great dio by Zaloga as reference if you want to try your hand at scratchbuilding one:

Chris, what did you use for wheels, the seat, etc.?

Fall Rot19 Sep 2009 12:30 p.m. PST

Wheels were from another model -- Pak 36 I believe -- I've got tons of those things left over from Fujimi and Matchbox Krupp kits ..

I think the seat is plasticard …

Great work CH – I've bookmarked this as I've been thinking of scratch building a few for years. grin

Chris, did you make a version in towed mode (rhyme unintentional)?

Luisito19 Sep 2009 8:11 p.m. PST

Under the bed enterprise does the 2 pounder . Avalaible in Canada via Five Arrows Figures fivearrowsfigures.ca

WarpSpeed19 Sep 2009 10:36 p.m. PST

Didnt airfix make a bren carrier towing a 2 lb at years ago?

No, universal and 6 pounder.

donlowry20 Sep 2009 3:23 p.m. PST

The Under the Bed 2-pdr seems to be only in firing mode. And I don't see any prices on Five Arrows' site.

Fall Rot- Excellent job. I have scratch built some guns but you have done a fantastic job!

SHQ do a 2pdr in 1:76 scale

donlowry21 Sep 2009 11:31 a.m. PST

SHQ lists 1, but no picture, and on the wrong side of the pond for me.

donlowry21 Sep 2009 11:36 a.m. PST

Someone should tell MIlicast it's stupid to make people register on their site just to ask them a question. I ain't gonna do it!

Horrocks25 Sep 2009 3:59 a.m. PST

The SHQ one is a lovely little model and can be done in both modes, firing and moving. I gather that you live in the US so try FAAUSA, they ave one as well, see here but not sure of the scale probably closer to 1/76.

Under the Bed and RAFM

Horrocks, thanks for the link. Yes, I'm in the US. 1/76 is what I prefer but sometimes 1/72 will do.

Horrocks04 Oct 2009 1:59 p.m. PST

Don

any luck yet, if u r going to use it with the BEF make sure u pick up the FAA BEF types, they are lovely

Andy ONeill05 Oct 2009 3:19 a.m. PST

FAA does the 2pdr, or used to do under the original owner.

donlowry05 Oct 2009 1:21 p.m. PST

Currently considering FAA and Britannia. Anybody have any experience with the latter?

These are more like to see action in North African scenarios than BEF (tho one can never tell). They were different types? Can you explain?

Horrocks05 Oct 2009 3:24 p.m. PST

Don

not sure I understand, the 2pdr would have been the same, just the uniform etc is different. For North Africa you can use the Britannia 8th Army, Indian and ANZAC troops which are all very nice plus you have the option of using the 2 Pdr portee that they do which is very handy and nice, mounted on the back of a truck.

donlowry05 Oct 2009 3:42 p.m. PST

Oh, you meant different crews. I think I have sufficient crewmen, but might pick up a few. The portee is a possibility. Thanks for mentioning it. Cost about the same as two ordinary types. Hmmm.

yakman28 Feb 2010 2:56 p.m. PST

I have a few of the Skytrex 2pdrs, they do them in traveling or deployed.I have put SHQ gun crews with them from their BEF range they look ok to me

Horrocks05 Mar 2010 3:01 a.m. PST

Don

which way did you go. As some one said FAA do one and they are on the right side of the pond for you but not sure what their service is like at the moment, sent an email a week ago and still no reply

donlowry05 Mar 2010 11:49 a.m. PST

I wound up ordering some Britannia 2-pdrs thru someone here in the states. It was a big hassle, tho. Long waits, wrong stuff, missing parts, etc. I'm reasonably happy with the guns themselves, tho the parts don't fit together as well as one might hope. Had to hold them together at just the right angle until the glue dried. The crewmen are rather robust compared to my old Airfix figures.

Horrocks05 Mar 2010 1:58 p.m. PST

Don

shame to hear that, normally the service from Dave from the UK to Australia is top notch and without any hassles. The kits themselves are probably a mix of 1/76 & 1/72.

If you decide to go down the 1/76 size for more I would recomend you look on ebay for a dealer called smallmilitarymodelsandmore who sells SHQ at quite reasonable prices and the SHQ figures will be more in keeping with your Airfix ones
