My question is whether anyone can verify whether all ranks of Austrian Insurrection Hussars had plumes or not. Available references show some with and some without, and I'm wondering whether this is a rank distinction, or whether it might be campaign dress to omit the plume. I'm preparing the Austrian OOB for Raab and wanting to use AB Austrian Hussars for these troops – they all have a plume and so need to know if should get the knife and file out or not! Thanks in advance. |

In the write up in Haythornthwaite's Osprey on Austrian cav, he indicates that they did have a plum that normally was the standard yellow and black. However, I also have pictures by Ottenfeld that show troopers without the plum in 1809. I suspect that you could go either way since these were militia type troops that would have had different levels of uniformity. Mark |

Agreed plumes are optional. |

Thanks Ono' and P.G. I guess that gives me some license. I have since done some further closer reading of Osprey MAA and there are some pretty clear references to the plume being ommitted for other Austrian Hussar's on campaign. I'm also interested to know if anyone has any references for which units had the non-standard (i.e. non yellow/black) coloured plumes. Also, are there any links to where TMPers have previously painted these units? |
