After reading what others had said about this ruleset I was rather interested. So I ordered the rules, and waited. The book arrived yesterday and I got all giddy and had to have a smell (tis a rule, always smell new books). Whilst not the nicest smelling book I have ever sniffed it is very well written.

If you are familiar with Warmaster style rules (also Blitzkrieg Commander, Future War Commander and Cold War Commander) then you will feel very much at home here. Essentially these rules are the same as the Warmaster rules with some extra bits bolted on. Which in my mind is a very good thing as I am rather a fan of Warmaster style rule sets.

All the rules are explained very well, infact better in some places than the original Warmaster rules. The ruleset is designed to be used with 40mm frontages so that means that our beloved 6mm figures on 40x20mm bases will look excellent.

When I ordered the book I was thinking that I was getting another Napoleonic ruleset (which was what I wanted) but upon reading the book there are army lists and rules revisions for other Wars. These are – Napoleonic Wars (of course), War of 1812, Mexican-American War, Crimean War and the American Civil War. I imediately ditched the idea of using the rules for Napoleonic Battles and instead I will be focusing on the American Civil War.

All in all if you are looking for a cracking set of rules that is very easy to understand for any of those periods then you could do a lot worse than go for these rules.

As a bit of a Brucey bonus proceeds from the sales of the book goto the British Kidney Patient Association.

Phil,

Each unit on the table represents what size unit in real life? Battalion for inf., battery for art. & squadron for cav.? Thanks.

6 stands makes a unit for infantry and that can represent a regiment or a battalion. 3 stands of cavalry are a unit and represent a squadron usually. I think 1 stand of artillery is a battery.

Its a very fun game. Its quick play but is a bucket of dice apprach if thats something that turns you off (its not for me!)

Heres a link to a recent game I put on
