Gentlemen, I need your help.

1. Does any manufacter make Irish Confederacy flags?
2. Were the flags carried by the Ulster Scotish army different from the flags carried back in Scotland?

Since the Ulster Scots supported King Charles, I assume
their flags looked like Montrose'. Right or Wrong?

I think you could try Redoubt Miniatures under their range of "Body's Banners", they do Irish flags, they have one listed as Confederacy cavalry flags, not sure if the others are just for the Irish in Montrose's Army or are also suitable for the Irish Confederacy Infantry?

One thing to watch out for re: Confederacy flags. Modern representations have them with a St Andrews cross in the canton since this is what an "irish cross" has been interpreted as being but contemporary illustrations sometimes show a Maltese Cross and McCoy in his book "Irish Flags" shows the provenance for this. For that reason I think the latter not the former are more likely to have appeared on 17th Century Confederate flags.

As for Ulster Scots I think (but without looking it up I can't be positive) some of the flags depicted in Stuart Reid's booklet on the Scots show regiments which had fought in Ulster before they were sent back to Scotland and they follow the normal Scots layouts.

The original cross of St Patrick was a Maltese type red cross on a white backround. However it was changed to it's present form at a later date.

Thank you everyone. It looks like I'll have to hand paint the Maltese cross though.

When was the maltese cross changed to the current St.Andrews cross?
