Hello fellow gamers. What do the members think of Sash and Saber Napoleonic miniatures, particularly The Austrians? What are the best 25/28 mm Austrians available? Thanks for your comments and input. |

I painted up 350 Sash and Sabre Austrians. Infantry and Artillery are great. I found the cavalry a tad small. All nice sculpts. Nice to paint. Here's some images. Sash and Sabre Line with OG Landwher behind. picture More S&S Infantry and artillery. picture OG Hussars. picture |

I have the S&S Austrian cavalry. I like them. Not too sure about the horses faces. They look a bit odd. OG 2nd Ed Austrian infantry (line & grenadiers) are now available. They are slimmer than Foundry, sort of like the new Alban minis skirmishers (i.e. anatomically correct, but being that skinnier than regular wargame figures). OG sell these ready painted. I also sell them ready painted. Take a look at Front Rank Austrians. If you are OK with the style (static, like Foundry) you may think these are best. They are about 32mm. Foundry – good figures. Elite – very dynamic. Again big figures but perhaps a bit small then Front Rank. I have a couple of thousand of these. Very good and cheap figures, but the range is pretty limited. Still, hard to beat for line infantry and the artillery is the best. The two best ranges of Austrians in 25/28mm imho are Foundry and Front Rank, depending on the style you like (and your budget). The most complete range is Foundry. You can see here a unit of Sash & Saber between Foundry units : link And a lot of Foundry on my site : link |

Front Rank, then Foundry. I will put them in separate armies to fight each other. I also have other types that will be on the table, but I like the Front Rank style. To me like Minifigs somewhat. |

FWIW the same guy (Chris) who did S&S is now doing the O.G. 2nd Generation figures. I know because he can't get the Dismounted 40mm Confenderate Cavalry yet! I have small (by my standards) amount of S&S French and Austrian (in Shako) Napoleonics, about 150 figures each. I am very pleased with them and would echo the comments about the French Line and Artillery guns above. I also have Elite but mostly for the Cavalry. VR James Mattes |

I don't own any Austrians, but I have several hundred French done in Confederation uniforms. I've mixed a few Foundry in some of the units. And to echo others, the artillery is perfect for me. If I were doing Austrians, I'd do the bulk in S&S. I like the range |

S&S miniatures are really really nice. After picking up austrians, I have decided that i will be going with them for my SYW russians when my group starts that period in 28mm. |

I have some Sash & Saber 25mm Napoleonic Russians that are great figures. I just wish they would expand the range
either on the Old Glory side or the S&S side. Skirmishers, cavalry, generals, etc. S&S announced earlier this year that they were starting work on some new 25mm Napoleonics again and so far all I've seen is some limbers. I know it will come in due time
I'm just impatient. It's not like I paint that fast anyway. |

The Foundry Austrian line figures are really nice but are quite petite even compared to the 1809 Foundry French, which are on the small side compared to a lot of ranges (Elite and Front Rank are big as mentioned earlier). You may be better off sticking to S&S for the Austrians unless you can get Foundry cheap (wait for a sale and get an army deal?). In terms of Legere for the French Foundry do marching legere. If you buy the regiment BRFN127 (24 fig Napoleon regiment) or BRFN7 (36 figs) from the "BAFN1 EARLY FRENCH INFANTRY IN FULL DRESS" army you'll get them cheaper. Foundy also do Bavarians that match in scale and style, so if you're doing 1809 they are another army that played a big part in the campaign. I've got a lot of Foundry (recent sale on) but I'll be buying more S&S Austrians and artillery for both sides. On S&S if you check the site they've recently added French limbers and caisons and a few lines now show as "coming soon". Chris also posted to this effect on the S&S Yahoo group so hopefully there will be more 25mm Napoleonics on the way. He's been busy on the Old Glory 2nd edition lines so may be returning to his own range now. Hmmm I've waffled again, basically you can build the core of your armies with S&S and use Foundry for the gaps. |

Well I've received recently some OLD GLORY 2nd Edition French Naps. Apparently they are sculptured by the same guy who does Sash and Saber, (S&S). Based on that, I'd say they a very nice. They (the OG 2nd Ed), mix well (IMHO) with PERRY French Naps. Perry are (again IMHO) the BEST you can get, so again, that has to be a tick for S&S. I have some of the S&S 40mm ACW, and they are also very nice. I hope that helps Cheers |
