Labienus in our forums has painted some Wargames Factory Early Imperial Roman Auxiliary Cavalry along with Warlord Games Early Imperial Auxiliary Infantry models to show compatibility.

Enjoy!

I'd been wondering how compatible the two lines were--looks like they go together rather well!
I'd also been mulling over the possibility of fielding a force of Roman auxiliaries to fight my Celts in small scale games. This looks like it has possibilities.
Thanks for the link, Tony!

Does anyone else think that the horse looks tiny and that the rider has a huge 12 pound head?

Hi axabrax – the Romans, Celts, Ancient Germans, etc of that time had horses that were really just ponies. The Welsh Mountain pony is a good modern equivalent. We actually chose to make them a little bit taller than the real ones so as to avoid the feet-dragging-on-ground look that would be more authentic (and appears in many Angus McBride illustrations)

;-)

Re: head size – I think if you compare the 3 heads in the picture you'll find that they're almost exactly the same size.

Thanks again,
Tony

People often forget to factor into this that humans were smaller too, so you get a downgrade of one element but not the other. The humans are still made to 28mm scale, but the horses get smallified.

Here is a small woman with an oversized helmet riding a Welsh Mountain Pony:

I don't mind the rider (in fact I think he looks OK, I could imagine painting him), but I also feel that the horse looks too small and boney to support him, even though I have also read that Roman horses are on the small side.

Tony – you cannot win this one. My suggestion, get the Perry's to make the tiny horses, then they will be lauded as god's true gift to wargaming by the whole of TMP.

Me, I quite liked both, and it is interesting to see you brave enough to share space with a competitor, so applause your way

Perry horses, there's an idea… I'd buy the rider if he came with a Perry horse.

Eh, they look quite nice to me. I've got a box of them and find they look very good, and the proportions fit nicely with ancient accounts.

I'd by Perry miniatures, but I don't have that kind of money. Besides, the plastics are so much better suited to conversions, dioramas, and units where each figure is slightly different.
