I'm starting out my moderns venture in the middle east around 2001 to present. Any suggestions as to sources for civilian vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, etc.) that won't look too large (HO, 1:87) or too small (N, 1:44) sitting alongside actual 15mm figs, tanks, hummers, etc.? Got some help here with painting questions so I thought I go to the well one more time. Thanks

I use the 1:87 scale cars that you can get cheap at Wal Mart. I forget the manufacturer's name but I always see them in the toy isle. If you need more of a variety, scan the local hobby train stores, they are a little more pricey but you can find all sorts of different vehicles in that scale. Some Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars match well with 15mm but I think they look better with 20mm myself. |

The Malibu International range is what used to be at Wal-Mart. They've not carried them for at least a year. From my experience, the 1/87 vehicles work pretty well with 15mm figures. You can see an example here: picture Speaking of which, I have a dozen modern cars and two large construction trucks in 1/87 if someone is interested. Wyatt wiattheodd (at) aol (dot) com |

You can stick with 1/87 vehicles, and the cheaper the better. Stuff for HO scale model trains, such as Life-Like, will produce passable vehicles that will fit in reasonably well with 15mm figures. I used 1/87th scale HMMWVs from Roco to fill out my forces when I was still doing 15mm moderns. I would use Peter Pig for some of the civilian vehicles (Land Rovers, Toyota "technicals", etc.) and then use Roco or Life-Like model train vehicles to fill out the rest. As long as I didn't have the same vehicle in two different scales on the board, then no-one would notice that I was mixing scales. You can use architectural models, which provide a small selection of vehicles in 1:96th scale, I think, but these are pretty pricey. |

Yeah I hunted ebay for stuff to go with my AK-47 armies and in the end I had to go with 1/87 stuff although it is a little large it looks ok. The only actual 1/100 stuff I could find was Japanese, but that was all sports cars. The rest of my stuff (mostly trucks) came from Toys R Us in no scale except looks right to me scale. I really don't think there are any good ranges of 1/100 stuff avaliable to be honest. |

Here is a shot of some 15mm insurgents and an HO (1/87th) GMC truck with a Peter Pig HMG in the back, and a Peter Pig Toyota truck (the blue one). I like the way the 1/87th looks with the figures. picture |

You can also find architectural models online that are the "proper" scale for 1/100. No sure the quality however
