Hi everyone;
I remember watching the episodes back when I was a kid, so recently when my Dad asked me if I wanted to "borrow" the 3 disc DVD set from the show, I jumped at the chance.
Since then I have watched the first disc (9 episodes) and wanted to recommend it to everyone.
If you can get past the very dramatic narration and music, you will enjoy great footage of all sorts of Allied and Axis equipment in action.
On Sea, land and in the air.
A lot of these episodes give you the "Readers Digest" version of the battles, but you just cant' beat the photography and action shots you get, especially of the early war stuff.
One thing I have been re-reminded about, was how much equipment and supplies, came out of the states here and what a role logistics played in the war.
hard fought battles aside, you have to marvel at how much equipment was moved by both sides, of course especially the allies.
So if you get a chance, go get this set and add it to your collection.
Good Gaming;
Joe

Fine Richard Rogers music.

The Guadacanal March sounds almost Monty Pythonish.

I have this classic in my collection as well as the two soundtrack CDs. I love Roger music, particularly the Guadalcanal March. For some reason it seems to fit the US serviceman and woman very well.

"And now…."
I had these on video tape and I recall a lot of the picture quality wasn't that good – has it been cleaned up for the dvds as if so I'll buy them.

Great across the board.

Got my two disk set at Rite Aid for $6.00. Love it.

I was impressed that the action footage used was actually from film shot during the battles pictured, as far as I could tell. Too many recent "documentaries" pick scenes from a variety of battles and use them as generic action to support the story they are telling.

A classic series.

"The Guadacanal March sounds almost Monty Pythonish"

And the Month Python theme sounds exactly like John Philip Sousa's "The Liberty Bell" march.

You may not know this, but the soundtrack was a fairly well selling record at the time, and has become a staple played in planetariums the world around.

Paul B…I haven't seen the VHS version, but I would think the DVD version is much beter quality.
In fact (I'll double check on the box) but I think it mentions the set has been digitally re-mastered, or something to that effect.
