Not looking for VTOLs, Gunships or dropships, essentially looking for the 2250AD version of the A-10 Warthog, P-47, Ju-87 Stuka, Thunderbolt, or the Hawker Hurricane. Im familiar with the Rebel Minis and Old Crow VTOLs
again, not what I'm looking for. If any suggestions are given I would also appreciate a picture or a link to the miniatures site. 1/72 plastic of 20mm metal minis may work as well if such are known. Thanks. |

We've gone down the drone route and use Combat Wombat's uav with GZG 6mm aircraft weapon upgrades (Raptor style). Its cheaper and easier to build a descent flying stand for high level air strikes. Also it allows me to use a flight of aircraft to make an attack. |

The Old Crow 15mm Alien Grav Tank and APC would work, if you can get past their names. They look more like ground attack aircraft, or spacefighters to me. |

I once planned to use the Romulan Warbird from AMT/Ertl as a strikebomber for one of my 15mm races and the Klingon Bird of prey for a Terran future A10. |
jpattern2 | 15 Sep 2009 5:07 a.m. PST |
If the Klingon Bird of Prey weren't such an instantly recognizable design, I agree that it would make a great future A-10 proxy. I agree with Ace, the Old Crow Alien Grav Tanks would work nicely. Add a few more guns, some underwing stores, and she's ready to go. |

Doesnt Rebel Miniatures produce some nice VTOLs too? |

Try ebay for some of the old "conceptual" plastic kits brought out back when no-one really knew what the F117 Stealth actually looked like – there were a couple in either 1/72 or 1/144, including a Russian equivalent, that were completely fictional and make great SF aircraft; it doesn't take much conversion work on the cockpits to make them look right for 15mm (1/100). Hinds without the rotors look good. |

A very nice design! |

Mig37B, used to have that kit! link |
ZeroGee2 | 15 Sep 2009 7:48 a.m. PST |
Yep, that's the one! Makes a really nice SF aerospace fighter. |

Don't forget the F-19! My favorite flight simulator from when I was a kid. Looks like there are models: link More space-fighter less ground attack though. But I certainly fired a lot of Maverick missiles into radar stations with one. |

Wow, the $140 USD kits are a bit rich, but the others for around $14.00, or so look very nice. |

Yes, they're futuristic, and beautiful designs in their own right, but the problem with the speculative F-117, MiG-37, F-19, and all of the Yukikaze birds is that they don't look at all like dedicated ground-attack aircraft. They're all too fragile looking. For ground attack, you want something that looks like it could take a hit from a howitzer and still keep flying. Uesugi Kenshin is looking for a futuristic equivalent of the A-10 Warthog: picture Or the Su-25/Su-39 Frogfoot: picture They're not real pretty, but just look at all those hardpoints for ordnance! |

I kinda like the snow speeders from the Titanium line, the trick is finding them. |
javelin98 | 15 Sep 2009 12:18 p.m. PST |
A modern helicopter without rotors and with A-10 engines affixed to the upper fuselage might have a sufficiently sci-fi look. The Eurocopter Tigre, Apache, Mangusta, and Ka-50/52 all have an angular futuristic look to them. Heck, the Ka-50 would look like a cool small fighter just with its rotors removed. |
Eli Arndt | 15 Sep 2009 5:45 p.m. PST |
Get something small like a Bronco in 1/72 or something and paint it to fit with 15mm. P38 Lightning could also be put into suitable drag too. -Eli |

The Star Wars clone Arc Fighter is available in a smaller scale for $15 USD or so. That might be able to kitbashed into a nifty CAS aircraft. |
Lion in the Stars | 16 Sep 2009 12:33 p.m. PST |
I dunno, the Yukikaze birds had huge underwing stores loads, I guess they could look a little fragile. How about the true-scale fliers from the CAV line? link Like the Kraken, Merlin, or Ghast? |
khurasanminiatures | 16 Sep 2009 3:20 p.m. PST |
As soon as Neil Burt finishes painting it, our Sea Wasp light anti-grav vehicle should be real nice for this. Each kit will have three options -- missile turret, double cannon turret, or a big dish sensor. Should be up for sale in a few weeks, along with the new drop pod. Atb khurasanminiatures.tripod.com |

You could always add more weapons under the wings/fuselage, or assume they have been fired already. One of the jets looks as if it is carrying a large, winged droptank, which could either be that, or a very large weapon as well. For $14.00, plus shipping, I think they are a great deal, since they are already assembled and painted. I agree though, that they look better suited to air-to-air, or space combat. |
jpattern2 | 16 Sep 2009 5:40 p.m. PST |
I agree that some of those CAV ships would be perfect. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 18 Sep 2009 6:37 a.m. PST |
"How about the true-scale fliers from the CAV line? Like the Kraken, Merlin, or Ghast?" These are outstanding looking, but arent all Cav models 1/300 which would make them too small for 15mm minis? Does anyone have any of the Cav aircraft to comapre in size w/ 15mm minis? Thanx for the input so far. |
Lion in the Stars | 18 Sep 2009 12:58 p.m. PST |
No, Cav models are 1/144 scale, and the *True-scale* aircraft are also 1/144 (10/12mm). The older, 2-per-pack aircraft are 1/300, I think. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 18 Sep 2009 1:47 p.m. PST |
Very Cool Lion. That should do the trick. Thanks. Anyone who has Cav models, a pic w/ 15mm figures would be appreciated! |
Ijumpajav | 18 Sep 2009 7:26 p.m. PST |
In my opinion the cav models "Truescale", do not work for ground comparison.. You can not put a "Truescale Fenri, next to a any 15mm figure and get a good proportional match up
.Not even close. What might work is to put them on 6 to 12 inch brass rod and "FLY Them" over the battle field. Sorry for no picts but a 15mm fig from GZG could not fit his leg in the cockpit of the truescale models. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 18 Sep 2009 8:42 p.m. PST |
Thats a great idea Ljump. I was planning on standard 2-3" high plastic flight bases, but your idea would give a much better visual appeal. Thanks. |
