I have had these painted for at least six months, finally put decals on them. There are two things I am disappointed with, the 1st one is the canopies, I really have a hard time with Raiden canopies. The other is the camouflage, I realized too late that Hurricanes have all the same camouflage. They used a template at the factory so it was all the same outline. Oh well.

magfor, where did you get the decals for the unit letters? I have a load of Hurris and Spits I did for ConQuestSF that need unit codes – had to run the game with all my British aircraft w/o identifiers (ended up putting id codes on the stands).

I-94 Enterprises makes them and the codes are BR-113 (Hurricanes) and BR-114 (Spitfires, Defiants, Blenheims). Just call Dave up and he can set you up. A great person to do business with.

Thanks Mike!

My mistake was to look through I-94's online catalog, and not skip to the unlabeled scans of the decal sheets. :-)

Oh, worry not about those camo jobs. The Hurricanes look excellent, and you captured the general feel of the meandering curves of the RAF camo well. It would take an inquisitive look to spot the wrong pattern.

By the way, could you tell me how did you get that realistic wash on those Phantoms and F-8s? ¿Did you gloss-coat the minis beforehand?

Rolando,

That is 1 part ink and 3 parts Future brand floor polish over flat paint. I then put a gloss spray varnish, for good decal adhesion, however I do not believe I had done that in the photos. In the near future I am going to make my own decals for the F-8s And Phantoms. The Phantoms will be the VF-111 Sundowners and I am unsure of the F-8s squadron at this time.

Mike,

Where are the plane pics Rolando mentioned? (edit: ok, I found them in the slide show) I am always looking to improve my painting technique.
I sculpted the F-4, A-4 and F-8 for Raiden. (edit: I have a few pics of them as masters in paint before they were ever replicated if you are interested) I am painting some F-8s up in VF-111 markings with mixed results, I hate markings. We are planning an early Vietnam battle in Seattle/Tacoma (edit: but it keeps getting pushed off to the right).

Magfor

I wouldn't worry about the camo – overall they look great. May I ask where you bought the stands, they look to be an elegant practical solution.

Gidday Timmo, good to see you posting!

I asked Mike/Magfor this and he told me:

"..I have two different bases. The homemade bases are made by Litko.

The other bases are made by Forge World. The acrylic rod was replaced with the same ones that came with the Litko stands.

The hexes are 2 inches…"

Hi Bob

How are you getting on with those Raidens?

Thanks for the info on the stands. The forge world ones look neat but I think the numbers don't go high enough for BTH? Nice idea though.

Mike G03 Apr 2010 5:47 a.m. PST

How high do the numbers have to go for BTH? They go all the way to 10.

Mag

For basic rules up to 6 and for the advanced rules 12 really but 10 would do to be honest I think.

Thanks for showing these I'm definitely going to get a pack to try out as they are neat.
