I'm working on some of the Eureka Revolutionary era Austrians at the moment and have run into a snag. I've chosen to paint them up as IR18 Stuart, whose facing colour is pompadour, and who have silver buttons. The silver buttons are what has thrown me. I'm assuming that the plate on the Kaskett remains gold, but what about the field officers lace cuff and collar distinctions, as well as the bicorne and shabaraque trim. Would these stay as gold or would they be silver.

One more clarification, if you'll indulge me.
From what Dave Hollins was saying over on the GdB forum, Officers jackets were white – i.e. no coloured turnbacks. He doesn't mention the collar and cuffs. Would these have been white, or facing coloured? He also says that the ‘waistcoat' was facing coloured.
I'm assuming that the waistcoat is the coat over which the sword belt is fastened, which is visible under the coat at the front. Is this correct?

What is the GdB forum – the best thing would be to ask Dave Hollins.

Teuber mentions in his text for example that officers were allowed – when going into a fight – to wear the Kasket – to avoid being picked out and shot at (experience from the Turkish War).

About lace, as far as I understand it – it was always gold – reflecting the Imperial colours – regardless of regimental button distinction.

Collars and cuffs for officers should be regimental colour.
A contemporary paintings shows the officers coat to be also buttoned down front in the field, so no waistcoat was visible.

GdB is the General de Brigade forum. I've asked over there, and also managed to dig out an old Ottenfeld print. It shows the waistcoat, cuffs and collar as facing coloured.

What, you think I'm an Austrian or something?
