Hup again chaps.

British 7th Hussars. What colour the sabretache's and the saddlecloths?

Connard Sage07 Sep 2009 11:41 a.m. PST

They looked like this in 1815

Don't paint them yet though, someone else will be along shortly to tell you that I (and M Cabaret) am wrong.

TBH Tommi, the link didn't take much finding. It resides in my bookmarks :)

Here's a link to the site. You might find it useful.

As always, don't treat it as gospel.

I believe they changed facings from white to blue in 1814 depending on when you want them.
They used to be called "the lily whites".

In Napoleonics, that's not obscure.

The fun is always in the details, though, isn't it? From C.E. Franklin's British Napoleonic Uniforms:
1811 – Lace & buttons of the officers is changed to gold, and enlisted men to yellow (from silver/white);
1812 – Collars & cuffs changed from white to dark blue;
1812-13 – Clothing above is allegedly issued, but is not generally worn until . . .
1814 – The Regiment returns from the Peninsula in 1814 and dons new kit.

Let's not mention the officer shako in Light Blue option (from 1812), or the dress sabertache for officers in red & gold; it will only annoy poor Tommy!

Decision time, Mr Atkins, decision time!

I always choose which I think is prettiest and may even combine references!! Heresy!!! I expect the uniform police to coming knocking very soon

Heh! Well since im fielding Light Dragoons and Hussars in the same army I'm not going to be that fussed. I just diddnt want to paint them green when they were black or something like that.

I remember painting my curassiers on lovely white and light grey horseys, then reading here that they usually rode black or very dark browns. Took another week to get em done :(
