My personal life is settling down and I am getting back in the saddle. Got a blog update with photos from my recent trip to the USS North Carolina.

I highly recommend this if you are ever in the region.

Also, I have been called to active duty with teh National Guard for a year, I will be training IT specialists state side, taking a year leave of absence from my job. I am actually excited, get to do my part again and I love teaching. See the blog for more details.

Thanks for all of the kind comments while I have been away.

We saw the North Carolina last year. Well worth the trip. I am six foot four--frightening to be aboard in most areas, but duty in the turrets must have been sheer hell! Did you head out to see what's left of Fort Fisher? Also worth a short drive or a shorter ferry run if you are in the area. Rob.

Missed Ft. Fisher, but will add it for next time around. Thanks for the suggestion!

Glad to hear that you are staying stateside. My nephew was just informed that he is going to be shipped to Afghanistan within the next year, as part of his Nat. Guard unit. We are not happy about this news as he has already served in Iraq and got blown up in the process (survived with just a concussion, thank goodness).

I hope your nephew stays safe. About half the class I am currently teaching is deploying within the next year, they are from a variety of units across the country.

I have an odd military record, as I ETS-ed from Active duty 12 years ago and signed back up at the urging of a buddy of mine who is now a CW2 (we were privates together years ago…)

Live in Illinois, but planning a trip out to NC just to see the Showboat. Will hit some other places while out there. . . but BB NC is the reason for the trip!
