The FOG was too thick for me, or was I too thick for it?

WKeyser07 Sep 2009 4:55 a.m. PST

Will have to get that one, FOG was tranparent to me, or was I just transparent enough for it?

I am also looking forward to the early American book as well.

I will prob just buy it for the army list and adapt to Classical Hack or something else.

I am excited to see both of the mentioned supplements come out.

I will be getting a number of the armies. Unfortunately their is room for some USA miniature companies to expand their lines to cover many ofthe armies.

For example the Medeival Indian armies. I will be fielding Three Kingdom Korean armiesand the Burmese army. Also later the Medeival Viet army when it becomes available in the last book.

James at War Eagle Design we have had sculpted Pre-Columbian North American (not Mexico area) native tribes for use with the rules. You can see pics of the greens on my Facebook and Myspace page.

Especially when it comes to the Americas book! I was saddened not to see the Huaxtecs included in that book.

U.K.,
The South American-Mexica nations were not my area of input. There was a complex but rational system as to what armies were ommitted and what were combined into other lists due to similarity. You may read the lists and find the Huaxtacs in with another list of similar tactics and troop types.

This has been out for a week in Australia. I came into my FLGS to pick up a copy all excited, but held off after taking a brief look. Quality wise the book is fantastic and offers great coverage to the period and region, but the authors have made the decision that all Asian infantry is medium infantry only. I haven't played enough FoG yet to know for sure if that's a good or bad thing, so have held off to await others reaction.

Rudysnelson07 Sep 2009 4:59 p.m. PST

McWong,
Archers are all medium infantry. The definition of medium infantry is as much about formation (loose vs tight) as it is bodyarmor. It took several emails and games of FoG before I understood the rational.

Other armed foot infantry I cannot say. I only know about the ones I worked on. Most of these (except the Koreans) did not use much armor.

However the type of formation applied here as well.

Benvartok07 Sep 2009 8:57 p.m. PST

Will buy, unlikely to do any of the armies.

But good to have for reference, research aganist opponents and to add to the collection.

Righto,

McWong7307 Sep 2009 10:03 p.m. PST

Hey Rudy, IIRC all infantry is medium infantry, irrespective of weapons/armour etc.

I'm on the fence, I wanted to love this the moment I picked it up, but the medium infantry thing held my hand!

Rudysnelson07 Sep 2009 10:25 p.m. PST

Body-armour has nothing to do with medium light or heavy foot. It applies to the armour rating. The medium-heavy is the formation and density of troop formations.

I had heavy foot options in all of the Korean armies. I also had heavy foot in the Hindu Indian armies. I did not have them in the Sotheast Asia army lists.

I did see heavy foot in the Yuan and Ming Chinese list.
The Japanese lists had medium foot but they were armoured and protected (bodyarmour medium foot.

Tibetan Zimchongpa should have been heavy foot according to my draft.

Calculon08 Sep 2009 1:33 a.m. PST

Medium foot moves faster than heavy foot and isn't as badly affected by terrain. However, it is more vulnerable to mounted in the open, and is also at a disadvantage when loosing to heavy foot in the open. So, horses for courses really. Most of my Chinese foot are based as 'heavy' foot for previous rulesets. Now I'll have to get used to them being less useful in a stand up fight with heavies and mounted, but I'll also have the bonus of having some terrain troops at last!

I look forward to seeing the Korean lists Rudy! I have Yi Korean minis but havent painted or based any yet. Working on the book.

Now that this and the Americas book are done we need to convince you to write an Osprey-style book about the Koreans and the sub-saharan African armies!

Rudysnelson08 Sep 2009 6:40 a.m. PST

U.K.

The Osprey style book on the Three Kingdom Koreanshas been completed. Mr Caspel from Australia edited and contributed soem additional material to it.

I hope to get a well known artist from Canada to illustrate it.

Several books on the military actions of American Indian tribes is way ahead of a Saheal book in the pipeline.

That sounds fantastic Rudy. I look forward to it.

I wasn't taken with the FoG rules (layout was very hard to understand), but I'd probably get the book as a reference.

both early and late Heian, Warring States Chinese, and Mongol Conquest, all in 15mm, for interesting battles and periods of transition.
