Hi all Last week I asked for ideas for making canopies and received some good ideas along with a few comments about me being crazy
:) I have updated my blog with the first attempts to make some canopies out of old blister packs. The link is 6mmfan.wordpress.com Next week the madness will continue when I try to make some pilots and have a go at vacuum casting. Cheers Kieran PS sorry for any cross posting. |

Did anyone suggest using clay or something to make the mold? Press the aircraft into the clay then fill it with your media then when dry you can see if it worked? How do you plan on removing the metal canopy? |

I think I would try either vacc casting, or making a latex mold, with a plaster backing, and then pouring clear resin in it. The obvious first choice to do is the CinC/Pfc. F-16 variant, which comes with the open canopy option. I have thought of doing this myself, but never took the time/effort to do it. Good luck, and let us know how it works out. Best regards,

Squadron.com has a clear plastic which you heat and strech over the canopy then you could remove and cut out. Replacing the canopy is easy with a rotary tool. |

Hi If the vacuum molding doesn't work out then I will try some sort of resin but there is more cost involved with resin. I was going to to use a dremel style tool to revoe the canopies. Cheers kieran |
