I have been surveying my 1/72 plastic medieval forces and have decided that, given my current forces I could game out some of the battles from the SOIAF series by George RR Martin. I love the series and have always wanted to do some gaming in the world of Westros.

I have troops to represent most of the major noble houses and factions, but a few are eluding me. I have been perusing the archives over at Plastic Soldier Review and haven't found anything that fits the bill.

So, for all you 1/72 plastics enthusiasts out there who are familair with the Song of Ice and Fire world, what 1/72 plastics would you choose to represent:

1) The Night Watch-ragged rangers who fight with sword, shields, and bows, and who usually wear cloaks.

2) Daenerys Targaryen's Unsullied legion.

3) The Others-otherworldly malign beings who live beyond the Wall.

You insights will be most appreciated!
Thanks,

Jason

There is at least some conversion possibilities for the Ragged Rangers in the Casear Elves:

Fantastic idea! I have been wanting to do this for a while, 1/72 is a good option to do the scale of the battles justice.

Difficult to cover what your asking for without some conversion! Maybe some Egyptian types with headswaps for the unsullied, the Night watch always strike me as very "rag tag" and I would use some dark ages stuff with some normans to reflect older equipment (compared to medieval for your house forces) but again you need to add cloaks.
Would love to see some pics!!

Fatesficklefinger, glad to hear there is a kindred spirit out there! I think you are on to something-perhaps some Dark Ages Saxons or Goths with cloaks would fit the bill. I also have some of the old but venerable Airfix Merry Men sets that would work well.

I just have to find a way to add lots of cloaks fast! The same formula might also work for the Brotherhood Without Banners, but with the added benefit that you can throw odds and end from other armies together as well.

And, as you say, I agree that this is a great scale for gaming this world. I do have some 25/28mm medievals but not nearly enough to get the epic feel of some of the battles down.

FFF, if you like, email me at cheshirekat72 at yahoo dot com and I will email you some updates as I reach 'em.

Winter is coming! wink

Maybe some foil would work, if you made a template (large enough to add folds)you could do a little production line.I prefer foil to the hassle of green stuff for this scale. I use cleaned tomato purée tubes!

I plan to purchase some bits over the next few weeks, I will send you some pictures and instructions of successful conversions.

I've messed around with ASoIaF in 1/72, here's a link to my myspace page Westeros in 1/72-

Haven't updated in awhile--I broke my camera--but I've started on armies for Wildlings, Night's Watch, Starks, Tullys, Lannisters, Iron Islands, Myrish crossbowmen, and various smallfolk levies.

I plan on using a modified version of the LotR SBG, since it's a game my son and I are already familiar with.
