My project this year has been building my 1/144 WWII aircraft collection. Until now, all my planes have been plastic kits and prepaints. I've just completed my first resin models, a trio of FoW P-40 Warhawks. With virtually no assembly required, aside from attaching the metal prop spinners, these were cleanly cast models with no voids or flash. I primed them with grey Gesso, which was probably a mistake as it took a very long time for the Gesso to dry on the resin.

For the canopies, I took my inspiration from TMP'er miscmini's excellent work. This was my first attempt at painting resin canopies, and I'm quite satisfied with the results. I did not originally plan to paint the panel lines, but the models were simply too bland otherwise.

I like 'em. I really like the canopy & may have to borrow the colors & pattern. Kevin

Very nice, well painted.
I also like your canopy painting but too me it looks too bright, like you are looking at the sky or it's reflection (in which case it is well done). Personally I prefer a darker hue to reflect looking into a cavity. But that's just me and nevertheless your technique is very good.

Peter

I looked through the WWII Aviation Gallery message board for ideas on how to paint canopies. Ultimately I tried to mimic Kevin's reflected-sky technique because I wanted the canopy to contrast with the olive drab paint scheme. Sadly, any color chosen is an imperfect solution; I much prefer the clear canopies on my plastic planes.

Very very nice. Can you tell me what (brown) paint you used on pic 1 ?

BelgianRay, the upper surfaces are painted Vallejo Brown Violet. The panel lines are done with slightly thinned Vallejo US Olive Drab.

Wow, are the sharks teeth hand-painted?

No, they are decals that came with the models.
