For those interested a report on a series of games from a recent DBA competition in New Zealand can be found here.

Very nice report. You have a good memory for play, without notes, even. I felt I was there, watching over your shoulder.

How did you get up against the tournament leader in your last game? Was this swiss chess style?

How were the games scored? Did your 2:1 win for example lower your standing. Likewise, lower the MIR score with his 0:1 win? Looks like your loss to Porus propelled the Indians into first place. Perhaps your loss there clouded your identifying them in the standings. Classical Indians are II/3 :)

Also you write an interesting sentence.
"For those familiar with DBA any push back would have eliminated the Roman unit due to the overlap preventing a Roman recoil, instead the Roman player rolled a six and Agathocles a one. "

I was recently reading a game report by Sue Barker and she used the _exact same_ language of push back and overlap. So what is the matter?

Push backs are what happen to elements behind elements that recoil, losers of combat recoil, so, are not pushed back. Second the Tarentine cavalry were not overlapping the Roman element, they were flanking them. Both writers used common day speech when trying to explain a specific DBA situation.

No big deal, but it is helpful to use the language of DBA if you write for those familiar with DBA.

"For those not familiar with DBA any push back would have eliminated the Roman unit due to the overlap preventing a Roman recoil, instead the Roman player rolled a six and Agathocles a one. "

or
"For those familiar with DBA even just beating it would have eliminated the Roman unit due to the flank contact
preventing a Roman recoil, instead the Roman player rolled a six and Agathocles a one. "

In any event, unlucky Agathocles, a cavalry general worth +3, +1 as a general, rolls a 1 = 5. The happy Roman blade, +3 vs mounted, -1 for being flanked, rolls a 6 = 8 but not a double. Was the Syracuse general fighting on foot in that game so a Hoplite general, +4 +1 +1 = 6. The blade vs foot is +5 -1 +6 = 10, not a double.

What did I miss in the combat. Was the valiant general overlapped so minus 1?

In answer to your comments it there were seven rounds on the day. Local players had an early round during the week. This indicates the draw had been compiled before the event for simplicity. I can't complain however as I had won the year before. It is DBA after all!

As to the combat outcome the Roman Blade was up hill and Agathocles was cavalry stand and himself overlapped.
