After bombarding Osprey for months on end with the same 4 or 5 book ideas they (for the second time!) posted two of my suggestion sin the same vote. I have submitted "Medieval Korean Armies" and "The Balkan Wars 1912-13". I would greatly appreciate a vote(s) for either! Btw, you may cast multiple votes by refreshing the Osprey page or hitting the "back" button on your browser menu. I cast at least 10 every visit ;-) So vote early and vote often! 3 Cheers to Osprey! ospreypublishing.com |

I will, once again, do my civic duty and vote
often! |

Ballot stuffing eh? <topical remark removed> Don't you think that's a little counter-productive? If Osprey start publishing books because they think the sales numbers are there only to find nobody buys them, they will probably knock the whole 'voting for book subjects' thing on the head, and curse their customers for the time-wasters and tom-fools they are. And we will deserve it if we behave like this. |

Ballot stuffing is old hat, the American way is to simply own the ballot machines so no matter who is voted for, the same name comes out, or is this only allowed in Ohio

Is this part of the recent Afghanistani elections? |

I was thinking more along the lines of a good old behind the Red Curtain Premier "Election"
. Comrade
.you got 99.9% of the vote
again!

More than happy to vote for the Balkan Wars, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully no hanging chads

Is that the follow-up volume to 'Combat Undergarments of the Waffen-SS'? |

Well, if you lived in Chicago we could get you thousands of votes. Nobody at Osprey is going to wonder how the dead got online. :) |

I always wanted them to produce "Banjo Players of the Southern Confederacy Vol 1 (Eastern Theatre 1861-1865)"
. |

Just as long as you buy one of each for every time you voted, I see no problem with your tactics. |
Shagnasty | 02 Sep 2009 8:36 a.m. PST |
I voted, but not for any of your suggestions. Arrgh! |
79thPA | 02 Sep 2009 8:59 a.m. PST |
Didn't know there was an election. I'll vote for the Balkan Wars one. |

I always wanted them to produce "Banjo Players of the Southern Confederacy Vol 1 (Eastern Theatre 1861-1865)"
. Would this be for the left- or right-handed banjo players? |

Neck and neck and neck race w/ Central Asian Armies, which I wouldn't mind seeing produced either! |
| Glengarry CLIF | 02 Sep 2009 12:14 p.m. PST |
I had the same problem. I can't imagine that Mediviel Korean Armies cover the period of the 16th Centuary Japanese invasions because that's the period I'm really interested in! |
Murphy | 02 Sep 2009 7:17 p.m. PST |
Grief; This would be early war, thus the right handed open backed 5 string minstrel banjo. Later on towards the end of the war and the disastrous battle of Hootenanny Hills and Uncle Jugs Junction, which resulted in the loss of 30% of the stills in the Southern Confederacy, left handed banjo pickers came into their own
But then again that is of course, A DIFFERENT Osprey title altogether
|
Uesugi Kenshin | 02 Sep 2009 10:00 p.m. PST |
Glen, it should cover the invasion
I submitted it as , "Medieval Korean Armies, 1000-1650AD." We shall see. |

Osprey's web site looks pretty professional. They probably didn't write their own vote-collecting module but instead are using a source library. Since anyone running a vote would be worried about possible fraud or other unfair practices, the code developer probably set it up to record the IP address with the vote
and possibly your browser's cookie information from their site, such as the voter's email address
unique user information that is somewhat trackable and can be used as a fingerprint to compare votes. I'm just guessing of course but that seems plain common sense. So anyway, if each time you vote, you are connected through a different ISP from a different PC (or at least a totally different browser) with a distinct user ID each time, then, your ballot-stuffing will probably not be discarded. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 04 Sep 2009 11:22 a.m. PST |
"your ballot-stuffing will probably not be discarded" You think they actually have time to do that?

The persons who do this sort of thing with publishers are also the same types who panic-buy goods when they discover they are about to become short in supply. Selfish, thoughtless and unconcerned about the possible effect for others in the future. I hope your next bowel movement is a fully-grown and very spiney hedgehog. :) |

"The persons who do this sort of thing with publishers are also the same types who panic-buy goods when they discover they are about to become short in supply." Well
. if you know the goods are about to become short in supply, it's not panic-buying, is it? Voted for the Balkan Wars, myself. But just once. |

Perhaps Osprey should collect deposits on orders for a proposed title. They must know pretty accurately how much it costs to publish 1,000 copies of a new book. Wargames Factory have their Liberty League idea where people can suggest an idea for a sprue. Users vote for it. Once votes reach 1,000, the company calculates the cost of the sprue, asks people to pay a $1 USD deposit, and starts to produce it. |

For those of you thinking of what other titles might be in the pipeline – link A few clicks on their random title generator produced "Indian Mutiny Commanders after tea on Wednesdays in 1887." :-) About 30 more clicks produced "U-Boat Battleships vs the Panzer II." |

Hey, I managed to get this: "Unmanned Bodyguard and their teamaking facilities in the field (Essential Histories)." |
