Part of a new games startup I'm pursuing, is the idea of using software or web apps to augment a game. I don't want the computer taking place of actual rolling like Ex Illis. Instead, the idea is to use the computer to generate terrain layouts on the table that can be filled in with whatever terrain players have on hand. This helps ensure a layout is balanced, or at least randomized. These layouts could be determined by scenarios, or scenarios layered on top of them by the software. Likewise, much like Arcane Legions and Ex Illis, there would be a strong web presence for my skirmish/rpg-lite style wargame where you could track your warband's progress, even get little bonuses, or use the website to generate what loot your warband got in the battle. What are your thoughts on these systems? Would you use a random terrain generator? How would you feel about using software to automate a post/pre game minutia? |

Use Google earth. If you must, randomly generate the coordinates. That's what we use for our WWII games (GM selects the coordinates). mjc |
