I've just started reading this site and another one or two, and I wonder if anyone here has spent any time at TheWarEvent.com, and what your thoughts were? It seems very well organized and easy to use, but looks like it may have just started, as the dates are all very recent. Does anyone know if this is the case? Have any experience with it all? |

Had a look, but wants too much personal infomation for my liking. |

There's certainly not much there yet. It looks like a publisher's site, with some discussion of other rules. If it can get a good following, I hope they prosper. These days, I mostly poke around here on TMP. Other than that, I'm subscribed to well over 100 mailing lists on various topics, as I find a "push" mechanism (messages come to me) a lot easier than a "pull" (I have to sign up for, and then individually check each site). Unless a site has a LOT to offer, I find it's usually not worth the effort, and most things of interest seem to have a following here on TMP. I just look for a relevant Yahoo or Google group on the topic of interest. - Bob |

I wondered about that (the personal info), I've had a lot of forums ask for my email address, so that's no trouble
but typically not the name stuff. But I didn't have to register to take a look around. |

Bob, does this site offer an option to subscribe to a feed of changes or updates? I know that TWE is built on vBulletin, and although I don't know anything about this new site, I know vB allows for RSS subscriptions
the fact that it's vB is actually how I found it. I like reading my updates via RSS, and visiting the site when I want to post. I plan to register over there and see how it goes, but it looks like there is a lot more to be offered other than just the forum. Maybe these are the rules you picked up on? |

I found out about the War Event from a good friend, and had been watching for it to come online for quite a while. Apparently they had some delays. I think you are right bobstro, there are some rules published there that you can join on, but the main site appears to be more gaming community oriented, I could be wrong but there are a lot of sections outside the Casus Belli rules. Hopefully it will pick up, it looks very promising. I'm not sure if we are looking at a pre-launch version of the site still, or if it's actually publicly launched. I actually found out about The Miniatures Page from this thread. about TWE! |

Old Smokie, The War Event only asks you for your date of birth (COPPA legal requirement) and your real first name. If that's too much "personal information" then I'm sure you won't be missed. :-) |

Ah, it's Greg Pitts' site. I'm on the Ancient Empires 2nd edition Yahoo group but hadn't noticed the site was up yet. Not used to thinking of the new rules as Casus Belli yet. (The original Ancient Empires rules used mechanics derived from Scott Bowden's Empire (3rd or 4th edition?) and were published (in a really bad printing) by the same publisher. Chris |

Hey Chris, Just to comment on a couple of your items. The only real game mechanic in AE that was also used in Empire was the TTC concept, which was subsequently dropped. From that point, the two rules sets were, "black pawn to white knight", which you already know having played them. No arguement on the printing of the original AE! It was a CF from the word go, but that's what happens when the publisher has it edited by a novelist, then submits it to the printer, has it printed, and ships it out to distributer's sight unseen by me or Scott, and without our approval (we hold the copyright). As I recall, Scott & I were still waiting to see and proof the blue lines and then we had a mess dropped in our lap. Needless to say we were a bit upset, and perhaps one example of why the publisher is no longer in business, at least to my knowledge. Now, what any of this has to do with TWE, I don't know. I saw your post in the Lounge at TWE and hopefully answered your inquiry. All the best. ;-) |

Greg, You recall correctly about our ordeal with AE. And I'm glad to see your new site, especially with the regards to folks using their actual name when posting on the forums. Good luck! Scott |

My congratulations, Mr. Pitts, on a great site! I love the fact that members are real people and not screen names Hummmm, I guess that those who use multiple screen IDs here won't be on your site. GREAT!!! See you there, as my membership info has just been submitted. I thought I'd mention it here, so others who want to enjoy exchange of ideas and information in a sensible setting can check out your site. |

So with all of this mention of multiple screen names, does this forum have trouble with trolls and lurkers that do negative posting under a second (or third) screen name? Are you guys saying that happens here at TMP, and that it's not allowed at TWE? Forums that allow that are very bad for community, and will probably be the primary reason I ever stop following a forum. |

That's a big 'YES' to both questions. One of the reasons I'm going to give TWE a chance. MJ |

Not sure if anyone else noticed it, but apparently they are really taking feedback seriously over there. They've unlucked some forums for general users, and tonight they even posted a preview of the rules. Not only does this look like a smart marketing move, but it says a lot for the type of environment they want to create. I'm a fan! |
