Most of the pictures of 1973 IDF armor I have seen appear to be tan. However, I have also noticed some vehicles, especialy M 60s which appear almost olive. Is this an illusion or did the IDF have two color schemes? |

The M60s were airlifed and came straight off the planes from the US in the nick of time to replace Israeli losses. |

Dear Bernhard rauch I believe that the Israeli's only had one color scheme. This was due to the need to transfer units from the Golan to Sinai or Sinai to the Golan quickly. All of the Israeli tanks I have seen are greenish sand. I do not know of any tan. The color could be affected by the color of the terain, and the natural light. I hope this helps. God bless you |

Colour reproduction of Israeli armour is not always what it should be so you should not always trust the printed colours. M48, Centurions, Shermans, etc should be sinai grey the IDF armour museum recommends Humbrol 94 for 73 era colour – Vallejo 976 is closest to 94 if you prefer acrylics. As noted most M60's were supplied from US stocks as emergency war supplies once the airlift started. |
