For any of you who have a Half Price Books close by, the whole store is 20% off Sept. 3-7 for the Labor Day holiday. Just thought it would be nice to pass this along. It stopped me from buying four books last week.

That'll just be inhabitants of the USofA then?

I'd run and hide before the crossposting haters arrive with their pitchforks if I were you.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Connard: Yes, that would be in the good ole USA only. Sorry it doen't apply to friends my across the pond. (I'm of Welsh decent) Let them come with their pitchforks and any other weapon. This is a deal too good to pass up.

I'd run and hide before the crossposting haters arrive with their pitchforks if I were you.

At least most of the cross-posted boards were actual book boards (though there seems to be four exceptions to that), and also the generic Historical Books board was also included.

I did that because discussions often draw on facts taken from certain books. I included classical Classical Asian because it's the board that I spend the majority of my time on, and I couln't leave those guys out.

Here's their web site, Half-Price Books: halfpricebooks.com

And here's their store locator: link

I live in the US but have never heard of this chain so I wondered if there were any near me. They are pretty widespread but it turns out no, none near me at this time.

But thanks for the info.

So, isn't half price 50%? And they're having a 20% off sale? Then aren't you losing 30% by buying there? I mean, it's silly to raise the price 30% and call it a sale, isn't it?

tigrifsgt31 Aug 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

My math(bean counter by trade)says if it's already half off,and you take another 20% off, you get the item for about 30% of the original price.

Except if the 20% discount is counted from the already halved price, which would lead to the final price being 40% of the original price.

Heh. While you all argue about the math, I'll be hitting the store scooping up the bargains! wink

OOOH! And I'm teaching this semester! That means I get ANOTHER 10% off! I've just got to remember to pick up my ID on campus this week! Thanks!

The educator discount doesn't add to sale discounts or coupons (at least not at my local HPB), but does mean you get at least 10% off of the listed price (which is usually 50% off of cover price, but they do have $1 USD and $2 USD specials) every time you shop, whether or not there is a sale.

The calendars usually have 15% and 20% off coupons as well.
