I've been thinking about doing up a small collection of "baddies" for Warhammer role play. One thing I would like to find is dismounted Chaos knights. I'm almost sure they used to make them, but I don't see them in the GW catalogue. I assume they've been discontinued. Does anybody know a retailer that might still have them?

The other type that appears quite a lot in the rpg game is the Chaos mutant. They tend to be, well, mutated, often with hoods covering their deformities, pig snouts, grossly obese, etc. I realise I could just look around and buy uglies from other manufacturers, but I'm wondering if GW ever produced figures for them.

Thank you for any tips!

Daryl

I am not well versed in current GW figs but aren't Chaos Warriors well armored more often than not? I've got a large warband of them and they are all in plate or partial plate. Perhaps the ones I have are older but I bet you could build some nicely armored shock troops from the Chaos bits. Perhaps use the knight torsos and helmets?

Hello:

I have been playing Fantasy Battle for about 20 years now and I tell my oldest son how Chaos use to be and he say they sound so much more intresting then they are now…

If I am remembering correctly Chaos Knights in the old days – miniature wise – are just Warriors mounted. If you look for the old Chaos warriors from around the 1980's you will find what you are looking for.

And the mutants you are refering to are the Chaos Thugs! they were the grunts of the chaos force, those and the Beastmen which were just mutants of various beast types. It use to be:

Chaos Thug or Beastman – a basic guy beginning to start with
random mutations

Chaos Marauders (in the Warhammer Armies Book) – the in between stage, better armor and such

Chaos Warrior – at this point you can but dont have to pick a patron and mutations continue

Chaos Champion – Depending how good you are you begain to feel the preasues to pick a patron and further mutations happen.

Chaos champion of (whom ever the champion picks or remain undivided)

Chaos champion begains to build a following…

From here you go to either a Deamon Prince or a spawn – driven mad by the insanity!

If you can find the REALMS OF CHAOS – Slaves to Darkness or REALSM OF CHAOS Lost and the Damned – they will fill in a lot of gaps for you.

You can find these models but the pricing is going to be night and day, I got lucky and won several auctions for the Thugs and picked them up for about $2 USD each a while ago.

Here is a links, you will want to got to the Realms of Chaos section and have a look:

Because GW has set the standard to the industry you can find many vendors who make very similar miniatures like these now a days.

I will see if I can find the name a post them later for you.

Have fun!

As others have said, Chaos Warriors models are essentially just Chaos Knights dismounted. Nobody would argue with you in an RPG that they aren't dismounted Chaos Knights. The only real difference in the miniatures game are their stat line. Of course for a main bad guy any of the dismounted character figs would work as well, especially the Champions, if you are looking for something a bit mutated.

Early on there was a run of Chaos Knights and Warriors that used the same bodies. The weapon arm and legs were separate pieces, so the torso, shield arm and head were used for both. The Warrior set of legs was rather awkward looking, and that set didn't last long.

Thank you all very much! Warlord, I especially appreciate your taking the time for such a detailed answer; it has really helped me get the current situation! I'll sniff around and see what I can find…

Not a problem, if you can find the 2 books REALMS OF CHAOS (Slaves to Darkness and Lost and the Damned)they will anwser a lot of your questions.

They are also loaded with a tone of pictures, My son found both copies on the internet in PDF format a couple of years ago so try a search and see what you can find.

Enjoy!

yeah, I picked them both up too. I think the one with Lost adn the damned might be a bit buggy.

Just to add, for mutants you might want to look at the Mordheim range, especially the 'carnival of chaos' and 'possesed' warbands. Some nice and creepy models in there!

or warhammer fantasy ghouls. just paint them more "human" like instead of the weird purples and greens they usually get painted up like.
