I've recently picked up half a dozen character minis sculpted by Steve Saleh, and I though it might be interesting to review them against each other:-

Simon, helpful as usual.

Will be nice to compare the Polemarch cavalary/generals with the smaller 1st Corps. Hoping that Aventine/Gorgon's later ranges will include some suitable generals.

If we are talking about One Eye's last battle I suspect a litter rather than a horse would be the way to go!

Cheers

Hi Garry, I always pictured him in a litter (a la Alfred Duggan's book), but apparently there's no evidence for it. I suspect he'd command from a horse at that age.

The Polemarch's seem to have halted, which is a huge pity. 1st Corps look really nice and full of character, but are just too small for me.

Hi Mike, thanks!

I've heard nothing at all re Polemarch. I'll ask a mate next week who might possibly know something.

Re new Crusaders; I wonder are they these? :-

I heard from GB about a week ago that the next release of polemarchs is two or three weeks away including the thorikitai. I'm looking forward to the mounted also.

Hi idontbeleiveit, that's good news. Perhaps that will be the remaining mercenary foot packs.

Hi Mike, yes I saw that on meeples, too. I wonder whether he got confused, and it was just a picture of painted earlier releases?

Don't worry, Mike, worse things happen. A friend once introduced me to an attractive girl, in error, as "Semen". ;-)

Thanks for the review, Simon. I pretty much agree with your assessments. Those huge swords are going to take some work to file them down to size. Still, Antigonus has potential: I'll bet he'll look imposing with a good paint job.

Really like the Persian and the centurion. Not so sold on Babastus. The pose and expression are great, points deducted for the accessorizing: look's like he's ready for yardwork with that sickle and as for the headgear, that's got to be the heaviest 8-point rack on the planet.

Hi Steve, I agree Babastus is the weakest of the three, but I'm tempted to whip the sickle off and paint him to see how he comes out.

Re Antigonus, his head looks old, but the body isn't that of an old man. Perhaps it is supposed to depict him when younger, rather than at Ipsus.

Cheers, Simon
