While at Gen Con I stopped by the Wells Expeditions booth to get the lowdown on this upcoming "collectible mass-action miniatures game" direct from company President Ray Wehrs.

He explains the new game's business model and just what comes in each of the boxes here:

And gives a brief gameplay demo here:

I'll be interested to see if Wells can bring the CMG model into the mass wargaming space, even in such a simplified way. Judging from the big crowds they drew throughout the con, though, they may have at least a fighting chance.

I saw quite a few people with their stuff. If I wasnt already heavily invested in 15mm, I probably would have bought some.

Should have had vids of the booth bunnies. Those girls were easy on the eye…and knew how to play.

It will be interesting to see how having them not all prepainted will go over. Looks interesting though. Does anyone have some closer up shots of the miniatures?

They're alright, but you probably won't be buying the game for the basic figures. They are realisticly proportioned 25s (to the eyes if you must know :) ) If you want to see them go to: arcanelegions.com/searches/basic

Only the painted rare units and characters are random, and you can just buy a set of 8 faction boosters to get all of them from the faction for that set. The infantry army packs are the sprues from the starter set repeated, and the cavalry boxes are set as well. I wouldn't have called it collectible at all if I was their marketer.

I like the system. It's not really deep at all, but it's fast and gives you plenty of tactical choices to be make. Plus, you can make your own unit cards, and the new Mantic elves have round bases that are about the size of the single peg based figures… So that got me thinking. :)

I think it was the Arcane Legion babes at the booth. Pics are up on the Arcane Legion facebook site.
