Hi, looking to expand my knowledge in this area. I have the Osprey's and the book 1066 (the one about the tapestry). Any other really good suggestions?

I'd suggest Greenberg's The Radical Face of the Ancient Constitution. It looks at the historical view of the "conquest" and how later authors used a few fragments of knowledge about the conquest to inform the political views of their own time period.

The book really uncovers some interesting things about the later use of the conquest among historians and lawyers later on.

I rather enjoyed this one:

It has a little speculation to fill in gaps here and there, and provides some interesting theories along the way.

There is a review attached to the above link. It is a reather easy read for a history book.

IMO David Howarth's 1066 The year of the Conquest is still the best and most readable on the Conquest and is particularly good for those newly interested in the events.

1066 The Year of Three Battles – An excellent history that gives a great deal of detail on the three protaganists, their peoples and background leading up to Hastings.

An excellent read as well.
