I've added some more background to the King Magnus' War campaign. The Anglo-Norse face an invasion by the Scots led by the nephew of Macbeth! link |

Very interesting campaign. By the way I live very close to Ebchester. |

Good stuff Mark! A great read. Enjoyed reading your take on MacBeth. Lumphanan is a few miles from us. So quite relevant. For anyone intersted in Dark Age and early medieval Scottish history I recommend Warlords and Holy Men: Scotland, A.D.80-1000 by A.P. Smyth. Cheers Mark |

Cricky! That's uncanny--particularly Paul being close to Ebchester. I chose the name as it was on an old Roman road, Dere Street, and I couldn't think of any appropriate sounding woods. I'll take a look at Smyth's book. I could do with finding out more about Scotland at that time. |

Lots of people live close to Ebchester – used to live close it myself, and had an uncle who did live there. Ina street called 'Cohorts Close'. It doesn't look anything like your battlefield though :) |

No, I was pretty sure it didn't. Like I say, I chose the name for the sound and the rough position! I had a look at the Smyth book last night, and I noticed a lot of battles around that area at the beginning of the 11th century. I could have used one of those names for this one. |
