I recently bought some unknown orcs on e-bay. When I had stripped them down I discovered an unknown trademark. It is/they are runes that seem to spell JG.Can anyone help me to identify these figures?I think they are very nice. They are quite small 25mm figures. They are dated 1983 on the base as well.

P.S.I thought the paint job on the figures was very good, but like to add my own scheme. They were originally based for Hott.

Asgard.
The best Orcs ever, beside the old Ral Partha from Tom Meier.
You may buy a lot more from
vikingforge.datasquire.net

Yep, Asgard! Can't rember if they were called orcs or goblins.

It was a very extensive range too, including archers and wolf riders. As Borrible says, among the finest!

I've just seen the website I linked above doesn't look well kept.
;-)
Are there any retailer selling them?
Mayhaps even one in good old Europe?

Blimie!!That was quick.

Thanks to you Borrible I have the answer. Thanks to everyone else for confirmation. They really are very detailed figures.

Not sure if I will be buying more just yet. I'm from the UK and while exchange rate is getting better, I have a ton of stuff to paint first.

Asgard. Who would have thought. The original Asgard figures were quite basic…..but had a lot of character. These guys are simply amazing compared to those.

And the JG stands for Jes Goodwin who now works for Games Workshop.

They are really pretty great figs. I plan on picking them up as soon as I get the chance.

Not a single photo of any of the miniatures at Viking Forge. Ah, well.

I have the whole range of these and they are fantastic. My favorite goblins (sold as orcs but that's a straight misnomer). They are slinky and evil looking, and there is incredible variety in the line. I took very good pics of each figure and have been looking for the right place to put them up. Would like to have them on the Forthers! alternate showcase, a wiki, Stuff of Legends, etc. Incidentally I bought the figs direct from Viking Forge a few years (5?) ago and it was kind of a shot in the dark. I saw how awesome they could be in the John Blanche/Ian Miller book Ratspike, where Blanche has painted up a couple. There's no email for Viking Forge or anything so it was bizarre sending a check off mail order the old fashioned way. But I got a personable note back and the figs were amazing sculpts and fairly good casts. Some of the stock is old lead and those are better casts. Those that have gone to pewter the molds are wearing and some odd things happen where a few bits of the mold have torn away. Pretty good, overall, though, and worth it for me. These guys are certainly a prize of my collection.

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for the pics I'll be putting up. I joined a wiki site of old figs just to add them but the mod is alseep or the sight defunct.

I would be inclined just to stick them on photobucket and then you can publish the url of your album here or wherever you fancy.

I believe that Viking Forge are adding photos at the moment (they have done the 15mm ancients recently) so i guess watch that space.

The goblin/orc minis are very good, I particularly like the one hunched up behind his shield.

IMHO the later release Dwarves from Asgard are still the best on the market, i have a bunch of them waiting to be painted. They were the first mini army i ever owned, my much older cousin gave me them as a crimbo present when i was 11. I spent a lot of time painting them up in super shiny silver enamels.

They are just fab and well worth the slight hassle of ordering from Viking Forge in the US. The people are lovely but there must be a simpler way to pay from the UK.

Hey all, I finally got around to posting pics of the entire range of Asgard orcs to the Lost Minis Wiki. You can view here

Ha! That's your post over at Frothers that I linked to.

Great pics. Viking Forge is going to make a sale because of your efforts.
