From Flower to Sapling?

Can a plastic flower become a wargaming shrub? Or maybe a small tree?

Dear all,
My name is Tony Banks and I am a gamer in Sth Korea. I would love to get together with others with interests either similar or divergent with mine. I am most keen on ancients and ww2. I am interested in DBA and Basic Impetus for ancients/medievals (have the full Impetus rules , too), and 1-72/76/20mm ww2 Rapid Fire! but would consider other periods/genres/rules & systems, too if it meant getting some games in! I also have FOW rules and a few supplements and would consider that too for a period I don't game in 20mm. Anyway, my email is fareast51@hotmail.co.uk
I would appreciate any contact from fellow gamers because I have my own English school and would love to set up a small club. In any case, if possible, get in touch and we might be able to set something up.
Looking forward to hearing from you all soon. I now there are some of you out there!
Best wishes,
Tony Banks

Tony,

There used to be a gaming group in an English school in Tong du Chong outside of Camp Casey a few years back. Try searching the message boards.

Where at in Korea?
I know there used to be (many moons ago), a small group in/around Camp Walker/Henry in Taegu….

Dear all,
I am based just 30min south of Seoul, in a commuter town called Sanbon.
I will check previous message boards re groups on US bases/posts in Korea, but from what I've heard, security is a little tighter these days. Could be wrong, though.
Regards,
Tony Banks

Sorry Tony can't help with South Korea but there is one TMP in North Korea! I am considering a transfer to Korea for a three year teaching assignment but that is not open for the next 24 months. After that I just might be in Pusan.

I forwarded your contact info to a wargaming friend I know working in S. Korea, hopefully you will hear from him. :)

Tony, I've dropped you an email.

BTW S.Korea is also rather large, so it will be difficult for people in different cities to meet regularly.
For example, it takes around 4+ hours to reach Pusan from Seoul, or around 2+ hours to reach Taegu.

But then again, almost a third of the country's whole population are living in Seoul grin

Tony, if you ever make it to the sub continent Neil (reinforcements by post) is in Bangladesh and I'm in Calcutta!

Tony,

I don't have anything here in country to game with but if you wanted to host a game, I sure would enjoy the company of another gamer! I'm way up here in Dongducheon/Bosan so couldn't do anything with regularity. I'll be in country 'till years end.

Tony,

I'm arriving in Seoul on thursday for a couple months at least. There is a small group of us in Seoul – a couple of us have some miniatures and I usually bring ancients but won't be able to this time due to other travel. We play FOG and one of the other guys has a good collection of 15s.

For the most part we play boardgames. WIF is popular and I will be bringing couple other board-wargames.

You can sign up on the Yahoo group ROKgamers – it's not very active at the moment but still is a handy way to keep in touch. I office in Gaesan Digital Complex and stay not far from there.

TMP in North Korea?! I would have thought that the only person allowed to indulge in such a dangerous hobby would be the Dear Leader himself…

The Dear Leader, in all his graciousness, has given his blessings so that a select few from the highest echelons of the War Council can participate too.

But I think that was just an excuse to get other people to play with him!

Yep, I was that TMPer in North Korea, being there from November 2007 to February 2009.

Had a stack of rules and figures, but no one to play against :(

Perhaps, I would have asked the Dear Leader if he was interested, but fear that if he did agree to a game he would turn out to be a bit of a rules lawyer.

The only vaguely game related item I saw was a terrain board showing the layout of the Panmunjom DMZ area. Which due to a quirk of the armistace line the border runs east-west rather than north-south as I always thought it did.

You might also have found yourself 'kept on' as a kind of captive wargames buddy – rather like the character in the Evelyn Waugh story who was trapped up the Amazon reading Dickens aloud to his 'host'…
