Does any one make 25-28mm preferably mid 17th century sailors? I'm working on a project that has a sea regiment in the army and want to add a few sailor looking types. Rich. |

What sort of nationalities are you looking for? |

You could perhaps try some figures from the various pirate ranges. The ones with more elaborate costume would be of too late a period, but the more simply-dressed types could do as sailors perhaps? By the way, anyone know of pirate ranges in 15mm? I fancy painting some up for the ECW as sailors were occasionally used in land battles by the Roundheads. |

Timbo. Grumpy's range of Buccaneers, and even some of their Colonial Portuguese, would work well for ECW sailors. |

The Peter Pig figs are great but lots of tricorns -of course they do sell lots of ECW heads which would work. |

Hi all, I think the Peter Pig figs have got some potential, avoiding the tricornes of course. Musketeers and unarmed figures look useful, I guess throw some conventional ECW officers in too. Does anyone know if ECW sailors used cutlasses? As far as I'm aware there weren't too many ship-to-ship engagements in the ECW but plenty of raids, bombardments, blockade running etc. Rupert and Maurice commanded pirate-esque fleets, and poor old Maurice was lost at sea in the Caribbean. |

Those Eureka figures look really cool, but they don't seem to be on their website yet. |

The Eureka sailors really are aimed at the mid to late 16th C not the 17th C, which is what the OP asked about. Personally I think you would be best off looking at the Pirate ranges as suggested. Foundry, OG, Brigade,Crusader, etc etc. If looking at the mid to late 17th C there are some Brigade figures in their King Phillips' war range that might suit and their Pirates are in part equipped with matchlock and bandoliers The Eureka Portuguese are not on the site as yet ( see other thread on this topic) but they are available. Wonderful figures they are too. |

The problem with so many of the pirate lines is that the useful figures are usually mixed in with a lot of not so useful figures. |

Timbo W Cutlasses were used from the mid 16th century what they looked like at this point I do not know but a cheap heavy cutting swords. I have seen them referred to as cuttleaxes and they were used like machetes so seem close. Rich |
