I just picked up a pack of the new Hasbro Marvel Handful of Heroes. I must say I really like these and the detail is really good considering they are made of solid plastic like army men but slightly smaller.

You can see pics of them here:

The package says collect all 120 figures but there are really just 40 different sculpts available in 3 different colors.

Each package comes with 8 figures 7 of which you can see and 1 is hidden. The figures stand ok on their own but are easily knocked down. I plan on putting mine on some bases for gaming.

Here is the poster with all the Figures

Where did you get them?

GiantMonster10 Aug 2009 7:34 p.m. PST

I got mine at Wal-Mart they were retailing for $5.97 USD

Broadsword10 Aug 2009 9:21 p.m. PST

How tall are they?

DS615111 Aug 2009 2:57 a.m. PST

Cool, I've never seen these before.
Are they a game of their own?
And yeah, how big are they?

GiantMonster11 Aug 2009 3:30 a.m. PST

Each figure is about 1.5" tall. The figures aren't really in scale with each other. For example Hulk and Juggernaut are the same height as Wolverine and Doctor Octopus they are just thicker and more muscled.

AND, judging from the poster, several figures have 2 or more poses/iterations. There are at least 3 different Spideys and 4-5 different Iron Man Armors. AND…there are no women, it's all male figures.

I wonder if you can paint them? I guess it is worth $6 USD to find out.

Lerchey11 Aug 2009 7:54 a.m. PST

Are they soft plastic? It might be worth buying a pack or two in hopes of getting guys that are supposed to be big, like Hulk and Juggernaught if the poses/sculpts are better than the others (Heroclix) available…

"KAPOW! in every pack!"

…for that alone it gets a thumbs up.

There seems to be an emphasis on half-nekkid muscled guys . . . Depending on the size of these these, I might need a Mandarin and a Nick Fury to paint up.

I just noticed on the back of the package what appears to be an Onslaught figure but he isn't shown on the poster.

These look very cool. For the price, you can't to any better. Thanks for the link. I didn't know that these were coming out.

Compaired to a few Heroclix.

I picked up a pack on a whim at Wal Mart this last weekend while getting school supplies with/for my son. He and I play Heroscape, and we often find non-standard figs to make cards for to add into the game (don't get me started on his mecha-godzilla!).

You can see most of what's in the pack, but being that the minis are semi-translucent plastic behind clear plastic in a store (bad lighting), or maybe because I just can't see, it was a little tough see who was actually in the pack. I selected one with three "big guys" as I figured that even if the minis generally didn't work with others that I have, I can always use large bricks for something.

The minis I got:

Warworld Hulk
Rhino
Juggernaught
Magneto
Ironman
Cyrclops
Green Goblin
Wolverine (secret fig)

The human sized figs (all but the first 3) seem a bit too big. They aren't, however, badly sculpted, though they are often oddly posed. Rhino, for example is charging in a very low stance (appropriate, head down), but his arms are *straight* out to each side like he's trying to clothesline a crowd.

I'm particularly happy with Warworld Hulk and Juggernaught. Both are posed reasonably well, are decently sculpted, and should paint up nicely.

The plastic is soft-ish, but not as soft as heroclix. I'm fairly confident with a little pinning and putty, that I can re-pose Rhino's arms.

While I won't collect these minis, I will likely pick up occasional packs as I find ones that I like, especially in a few months when they go into "price dump mode" at Wal Mart, as all things eventually do. There are a few gems in a pile of chaff (for my purposes), but the gems are easily worth the $5 USD I spent. At the worst, I get 3 usable big guys for various games (Heroscape, Champions or whatever), and will likely turn the Iron Man mini into a soulborg (robot) Champion or Commander for my son's Heroscape set.

Generally, I like them. If they had a broader range, and there wasn't already a glut of Clix out there, I'd say that they could have easily become a main source for Marvel heroes.

Say, that's not bad at all! I may have to look into these…

…besides, any mini series that has Mandarin in it has to be doing something right!
