WOW! That looks fantastic.

They are nice.. would look way too big on a 6mm figure though ;)

45thdiv10 Aug 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

But they don't look too happy. In fact the third one on the left (bottom row) looks like he is going to be sick.

I really like these. What a grumpy bunch of fellows they would be.

Those faces look like they would be fun to paint. I assume that this (bicorns) means that the uniform coat will be the long-tailed version that was used before the Bardin changes in 1812. So I could use them for Marengo, Austerlitz, Jena-Auerstadt perhaps?

christot10 Aug 2009 12:18 p.m. PST

yeah, they are ugly enough…Fritz, they already do the long coat, but with shakos…maybe this is just a "head-set"…or is it a whole new box of infantry?

Doh! I checked the Victrix website and yes indeed, the early French will be available in September. I don't like assembling figures, but I may have to make an exception in this case. One of the things that I like about Victrix and other plastic figures is that the anatomical proportions look realistic, so the poses look real as do the little men. This is a good thing.

Fantastic. Bags of character. This is Victrix firing on all cylinders.

Would love to see some 71st Light Infantry Heads too (the stiffened stovepipe shaped highland woollen bonnet, diced in highland fashion, light infantry badge and pompom on centre of top) with appropriate grimaces.

These are amazingly well sculpted!

mweaver10 Aug 2009 4:19 p.m. PST

Very nice – lots of character!

They look great – with all that Revolutionary long unkempt hair. Love the spoon & pipe stuffed on their cockade. Multi-colored striped pants would very appropriate with these.

Does anyone know how the already out Victrix look next to Eureka's Revolutionary French?

Rob UK11 Aug 2009 11:47 a.m. PST

They do look nice but I don't like those spoons in some of their hats!

CC, there is a comparison shot up on the lead Adventure Forum: link

It looks to me like the Victrix are slightly larger.

The spoons in the hat probably come from the Funcken drawings. Fred and Lillian Funcken had a sense of humor.

colbert12 Aug 2009 1:44 a.m. PST

DAF,
Yes, they had a sense of humor ;)

Second from the left, front row is Les Dawson!
(Famous English comedian, alas now dead, for those unfamiliar with his work.)

christot12 Aug 2009 7:49 a.m. PST

It IS Les Dawson….and to his left is Blakey from On the Buses, above him to the left a young Des Lynam

They look areat, about the spoons, it was quite trendy to carry them, but not like this, you would loose them pdq, they were worn instead as a pompom, that is take out the pompom of the containter and place the handle to the spoon into it, the same you can do with the pipe and you won't loose it.

Such wearing of spoons is testified by eye witness accounts and contemporary prints.

when the French marched through Berlin in 1806 the population of Berlin thought of those wearing a spoon being a special corps and termed them Löffelgarde – spoonguard.

Thanks, AT!

'They are nice.. would look way too big on a 6mm figure though ;)'

I don't know, they would be about the right size for some of the 6mm figures I've seen!

By John 5414 Aug 2009 10:05 a.m. PST

Oh, and they are fantastic sculpts, to be sure.

Tommiatkins15 Aug 2009 1:54 a.m. PST

These would go fantastic with a scratch built guillotine and a few baskets.

Arkoudaki17 Aug 2009 9:11 a.m. PST

Very nice sculpts that are full of character. Let's hope the good folks at Victrix have finally resolved all the casting/production problems so we can enjoy these great figs! Fingers crossed!

FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!
I like very much early period of Napoleonic wars.
Have you any news about French enemies for this period?
Austrians 1800-1805, Prussians 1806 or Russians 1805?
