MILLER'S STUPID QUESTION FOR THE DAY:
I want to paint "silks" for my Saracen (1st Crusade)and my Asiatic Steppes, Chinese cavalry. I remember an Armory line of "silk paints". Does Armory still produce this paint? If not, will Vallejo's metallic addition work to make a silk color? Any pearls 'o wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Steve Miller

The curse of crossposting strikes again.

I seem to recall that the Armoury paints were a variety of pearlescent. Perhaps a wash with link would do?

What curse? Thanks for the link

What curse?
It doesn't matter :)

I've seen a small range of pearlescent acrylics in the local Hobbycraft store. Can't remember the name, and I don't know if they'd be useful for painting miniatures.

Googling

Here you go link . Only 6 colours

I use the pearlescent craft paints for just this purpose. I just can't remember the brand, as I am posting at work and can't wander over to the paint cabinet.

Ral Partha had a line of "Silks and Satins" that were nice. I don't suppose they are available any longer.

I think that you could try using the Vallejo metallic medium for the highlights – my instinct tells me it should work well.

[The 'crossposting curse' is posting to too many boards.
It's considered more polite to keep it to just the really relevant boards, in this case probably just the Painting board.]

I've added Vallejo Silver to a light blue with good result.

Paint the flag with a good enamel silver (or airframe aluminum evil grin) after it dries paint over it with translucent (thinned) acrylic. Gives a nice texture and sheen.

Oh, and gloss it

thanks for the more lucid and erudite replies to my question. I appreciate it, have bought the paints and have tried the silver and light blue combo. They all work well! Issue resolved.

LOL! I thought this was about "Painting Sikhs".
