What color was the FFL coat in the period 1870-1890..? Yeah.. I know.. BLUE. But what shade of Blue.>? My net research turns up coats (the capote) from dark blue to light blue.. and two other shade in between..! I know the Legion wore the standard French line infantry uniform .. a drak blue.. so are we talking about the blue fading in the African sun..? |

Yep. I'd say go with a blue shade that you think looks right. |

The bleaching effect of the sun would make any colour change within a matter of weeks anyway, so go with what you like/have in your paint selection. I would use a grey toned blue (Oxford or Prussian) rather than a bright blue (Royal). |

As Rob and MM said sun fading would have been common. I go with issue shades of Dark blue myself for most troops. If you are looking for tropic colors like for madagascar, then you may need to do a little more research to see if they did not wear tropic white. |

I use a Tamiya Dark Blue but shade it for fading |
