A question for you gents from down under :) The headgear that I've seen is a shako/mirliton (green) with no bill. I've also seen a picture of a toy soldier officer of the same unit with a bill ?
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether the illustrations are wrong or did the officers have and the enlisted not have bills on their shakos ? Thanks :)

Hi, you could try this site it may have relevance for you:
link
and this one: link If you go to AWM site and search in their Collections Search "Ballarat Rangers" there are three images one of a Captain (wearing a pillbox cap). I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks Chief Bosun :) Almost looks like the rifleman in the black and white photo is wearing a fur busby/shako ? Looking at the color pic I got off another Australian site, that may be it ? Thanks for your' trouble.
