Clash of Arms will be releasing DEADLY WATERS and the general rule book CONVOY, at US Thanks Giving.

The delay has been due to the realisation that to include the rules in each edition would be too expensive for the users. So there is now a once only purchase rule book, and each of the convoy games will come as a seperate map game. That will keep the costs way down, which should please everyone.

Arctic Storm will follow the above, with Atlantic Fury well advanced and in the pipeline.

The Convoy rules book is also intended to be a 'lite' WW2 naval rules for general naval battles too.

Hands to battle stations…this is not a drill! Special sea dutymen close up!

For the interest of those who might think one convoy book would have to be the same as any other convoy book….I can assure you that it was not the case. Problems faced on the Arctic Convoys were completely different to Deadly Waters, and similarly to Arctic Storm. Instead of trying to write a generalised book on convoy battles, I have divided the subjects up into specific areas and time frames.
Those who play Deadly Waters will find a whole new set of problems facing them in the other games.

Its too tempting for people to write rule books that try to cover an entire era, thus overlooking the specific details of a particular zone of war. I have taken the reverse approach and each book in the series will individualise the time period and combat types in that combat zone.

Thus it was important to have the rule book as a seperate item, so each individual book will not have to be too large and expensive.

Any idea on price for these?
The Clash of Arms site seems not to have anything on them at all.

Mal Wright Fezian06 Aug 2009 1:13 a.m. PST

It will soon Gumshoe.

No I only have a ball park figure they were working too for price. They wont be very expensive. Times are bad for some people, and we have worked on that understanding.

I can guarantee you immediate riches and fame through the sale of one copy of each book.

OK, Arctic Storm presumably deals with the UK to Murmansk convoys, like PQ17.
Atlantic Fury would cover the convoys across the North Atlantic from North America to the UK.
What does Deadly Waters cover?

I'm waiting to buy. My father made the Murmansk run twice. So did my grandfather.

Ascent06 Aug 2009 6:32 a.m. PST

Is there one covering the Malta convoys?

My Grandfather was involved with those on an escort destroyer.

Mal Wright Fezian06 Aug 2009 6:33 a.m. PST

Deadly Waters covers the convoy runs to and from Gibraltar. Also HG76 the first time Captain Walker RN got a chance to try out his tactics on a wolf pack, and defeated it.

CORRECTION.

I should have said printing at Thanks Giving for release at Christmas!!!!

Sorry about that.

Mal Wright Fezian06 Aug 2009 6:36 a.m. PST

Malta Convoys is a possibility.
However as there are so many scenario's out there for those, at present my research, notes, and planning are based around the AXIS convoys supplying North Africa. That is a very different subject and one hardly ever touched.

Hey, this seems cool. Are there any places I can see a preview or a quick run down of the game?

I might be able to scrape a few pennies together.

Is this a boardgame or a table top miniatures game?

The Jim Jones Cocktail Hour06 Aug 2009 10:50 a.m. PST

Didn't you put out a Convoy game in the 1980s? I seem to recall having a copy, homeprinted but had excellent sub rules.

Very exciting. Really looking forward to this/these!

I'm not much of a naval gamer, but these rules sound way cool. The after action report on a Murmansk game that was posted some time back was exciting to read. I'm looking forward to getting the first set when they are released.

And the Axis convoys to supply North Africa? Brilliant. It will be nice to sink axis supply ships for a change.

Great news Mal!

Mal Wright Fezian06 Aug 2009 7:06 p.m. PST

OFM…its a miniatures game playable in any scale.

Mal Wright Fezian06 Aug 2009 7:12 p.m. PST

There are several other battle reports on the naval battle reports board Caesar.
