Front Rank, Sash and Saber, Trident … are there any other ranges that include French or German figures?

Any opinion on their "paintability"? Front Rank seem to look nice in web pics …

I do not have but 6 of the AWI range of S&S but I have over 1500 of the ACW range. I have found them a joy to paint and find that they paint up much more easy then 25/28mm figures. They look great and I am no expert painter.

Trident Designs is working on the 40mm Hessians at this moment. We intend to do Musketeers, Fusiliers, Grenadiers, Jagers,Dragoons, Artillery and personalities. Hopefully we will have something ready by the end of Auguest or early Sept.

S&S make the BEST 40mm range by far IMO. I recently picked up over 300 40mm AWI on Ebay for a really insanely cheap price, and I was blown away by them! The poses, the sculpting, the attention to detail, amazing!

Thanks for the feedback

Trying to decide whether to go 40mm or 28mm right now …

The Perry and Conquest 28mm figs are VERY nice as well.

In 28mm, you can also use Eureka (specially sculpted to be Perry-compatible) who have a number of AWI specials and vignettes, and throw in the occasional "tubby" Front Ranker for a bit of variety/character.

Unless you can get a few good deals, like 95th did, IMO the extra 12mm is not worth paying twice as much for the figure (good though they are).

I was always on the fence about getting into 40mm,but when I saw almost 400 figures with a starting bid of $100,I had to go for it! I got almost $1,000 USD worth of figures for a bit over $225!
Continentals,militia,riflemen,guns,mounted officers and dragoons.
I haven't started painting any yet,but I can't wait!

Bob,
It is a good thing I have been off Ebay for almost a year or you would have had a bidding war!

I find that for good quality figures 40mm is a lot less expensive than 28mm. (At least in the US).

I have lots of S&S and Trident 40mm and love them all. I find 40mm to be joy to paint, convert etc. Much nicer than working with 28mm. And S&S and Trident offer seperate heads, weapons, hands etc, just makes conversions so much easier.

Put me down for 40mm. For the AWI it's really no contest as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, S&S and Trident will be cheaper in the US than having to import 28mm Perrys (for example). For us in the UK, 40mm (whether home grown or colonial in origin) works out about 2-3 times the price of a Perry.
