Hey there, odd request this, but I'm looking for science fiction camel riders. I'm wondering if I could adapt some historical miniatures, biut have no idea where to start. What I want are camels (although I'll be modifying them with a bit of putty) and riders with robes and gas masks (though again, I could add those) and carrying modern or sci-fi weaponry. Any suggestions very welcome. In the meantime I'll kleep looking! Cheers! Paul |

I was looking for something similar previously, to use as stammel riding Norts from Rogue Trooper. Unfortunately, while camels for conversion are easy to come by, suitable riders are less so. The closest I got was the old muties from GW's Gorkamorka (via ebay) but they were a bit more of a ragged mutant look than robed & masked soldiers. |

One might assume it's 15mm as it's become pretty hip lately
If however it's 28mm or so, then you might like to check out Urban Mammoth's Junker Sandrunners. No robes and a bit baroquely ornamented, but I'm sure there's something related to knives, pliers and modeling putty that can be done about that. See under Urban War & Metropolis Blister Packs --> Junkers: urbanmammoth.com/acatalog |

If 15mm, you might want to look at minifigs. For camels look at their colonial range, probably the french foreign legion and the sudan both have ranges with camels (pretty sure, but not completely sure, that they do FFL). Then they also have a 15mm WWI line, including cavalry. IIRC the cavalry are also available with gas masks. Only problem might be that minifigs lines often have one-pose-itis. |

Parmenion, ditto, I want them for a rogue trooper game! I should have just said that to begun with. And 28mm (with the usual variations) ideally. The Urban Mammoth link looks pretty promising, and I can see uses for some of their other figures too! Smoggers looks interesting, and the irregular camels are fine too, but only if I can find suitable riders. I shall have to think more on this, maybe looking at seperate fmntasy riders I could convert. If I find anything I'll post it here for you Parmenion. |

Thanks Paul, I'd appreciate any tips you can offer! My difficulty is that I'm using the old Citadel range, so most modern '28mm' figures are too big for my purposes. Are you using Citadel or Bronze Age minis, or something else entirely? If it's Bronze Age, you should suggest the idea to David – he may well be inclined to sculpt some mounted versions of his not-Norts. |

I'm using a mix of everything I can get my hands on! I have also started a small yahoo group for Rogue Trooper, though I haven't got much on it (or even mentioned it to anyone till now!). link Hoping to start playing next week if everything goes to plan (it won't). Cheers! Paul |

If modern 28's are too big, what about basing a conversion off of these guys link For guys in robes, how about getting Moorish cavalry figs? I wouldn't be surprised to find someone does them mounted on camels too. |
