My question is, is such a thing available? Like, for instance the Traveller reprints. I have been watching eBay trying to decide whether it is feasible to bid on any of the original books. But man can they be expensive!!! So are there any reprints out there? I am interested in the original 3 books and Greyhawk, and possibly Blackmoor.

Any ideas???

Check here for the PDFs:

rpgnow.com

And before you buy any D&D check the WOTC site. Some of the free PDFs on WOTC were available to buy at the RPGNOW shop awhile back.

I have what appears to be the original white box with the 3 rule books inside. Only trouble is, it has "original collectors edition" printed on the front which I can't imagine was on the 'real' first edition, which leads me to believe I have a reprint.
Anyone confirm this for me?

that is not a reprint, but an official boxed set, its like the 4th edition of that printing. it would bring $100-350 on ebay.

I have had several in my hands for resale, so I am very familiar with it.

WOTC yanked all the PDF sales earlier this year. So other than Ebay, the closest you will get would be Swords & Wizardy, a retroclone produced under the OGL(open game licence).
