Some wargamers, feeling that with the horses provided my the manufacteurs their cuirassiers look like riding Polish ponies, remount them on 30mm heavy horses: Suren 'Willie'? Olger Eriksson? Can't remember, nor retrieve the reference (should really take notes – memory non longer what it used to be). Thanks |

The horses that come with TAG renaissance are substantial, but not sure you can get them separately. They are beautifully sculpted as well!! |

I seem to recall that Ioannis experimented with mounting SYW cuirassiers on Perry's plastic ACW horses some time back. Besides the issue of cutting away the plastic saddles (which are moulded to the horses) those Perry horses are big and would do the trick as well as being lovely sculpts. Hopefully Ioannis might see this and comment on how that went or provide a link. Nigel |

I like to put Suren figures (30mm) atop of Stadden horses because the Stadden horses look better and are sturdier than the Suren horses (many of which are weak in the ankles). Also, the Suren riders seem to seat better on the Staddens (I hate spending 20 minutes per horse filing away lead to make the figures seat properly). Fritz doesn't like to do extra prep work if it can be avoided. |

Yes, I have used the ACW horses from Perry to mount my Foundry Prussian Cuirassiers. These are proper horses for these riders! Only setback is that you have to clean to saddlery, not a biggy after you do 20 or so of them! Also, the ACW horses have single reins. So, I am waiting for the plastic cuirassier set that has the correct double reins before I continue remounting my heavies! Here's the link
leuthenjournal.com/?p=411 It would be interesting to know how a Foundry cuirassier would look on a Stadden horse!!! |

How a Foundry cuirassier would look on a Stadden horse? or a Schaumburg-Lippe-Bückeburg Karabinier, if indeed such exists in 28mm? To make him look as from earlier in the century, one would have to enlarge the upper part of the boots, to reproduce the heavy, rigid ones picture of the WSS / GNW. I guess most would use greenstuff or the like; in my days I did similar modifications with several coats / layers of thick acrylic wall paint (!) or even better, nail varnish (!!). Then, Stadden horses: thanks for the advice. |

I use the horse from Imperial Miniatures Demi-Brigade range (which has since been bought by someone). The Floundry SYW Prussian Cuirassier look really good on them. I'll see if I can get a picture uploaded in the next few days. |

Another option might be the heavy cavalry horses from the late Peter Gilder's Hinchcliffe 'Foremost' range. They were really impressive beasts, big and very nicely proportioned. They were available through another maker a while back, maybe still are
