I'm currently re-basing some 15mm nappies I did in the 1980's into battalion stands, i.e. 3 or 4 stands make up a battalion. Was wondering what other guys do with thier command stands as far as mounted and dismounted officers, drummer, standard bearers etc. I have seen mounted officers in the middle of stands flanked by a drummer and standard bearer, it looks nice but not sure if it's historical, not that matters to many rule sets. Thoughts? Thanks.

I put all my battalion commanders on foot with a drummer and standard bearers. Mounted officers are reserved for commanders not a part of a battalion. Those are generally mounted on washers.

I quite like the look of a single mounted officer, with a drummer and standard bearer(s) on a battalion command stand. The mounted officer takes up two 'slots'. So nations with two flags have a tight squeeze.

Officers on foot for the battalons, mounted are brigade or above commanders.

1st battalion with mounted officer.. others with foot.

Makes id a bit different and easy.

Hmm, kind of like that idea. Anyone know of how the others might be placed? Drummer, standard bearer, and the NCO with the hatchet thing!! Sorry it's been a bad Monday!

Mounted officer, 1-2 standard bearers as required, drummer, then pioneer/sapper or foot officer if there is room. Only 4 figs total per stand though. My command stands are a little bigger than regular stands but it works out fine.

Larry R – "Sapper" is possibly the word you're looking for.

Actually it's a "Pioneer" with the Axe. Sappers are Field Engineers.
It's like Artillery pieces have "Detachments", (not crews).
Going back to lurking mode now,…

Actually I was thinking of a Deuxieme Portaigle with halberd

Aye, but there are two of these…

I have found that "command stands" take up so much space that they wind up dominating the front rank.

I personally reserve the front rank for figures with projecting bayonettes, with standards and officers in the second rank. I usually spread out the "command" figures, with a drummer on one end of the second rank, standard in the middle.
